Capping unused thru hull?

Any practical advice for capping an unused thru hull fitting? This particular fitting is plastic, straight, and does not have a ball-valve. It is the output for a macerator from head, where there is a valve to switch between macerator and pump-out. I am going to remove the macerator and restore a single, pump-out connection. I don't want to leave a hidden potential leak. The good news is this is easily accessible by removing the settee seats. I could easily leave all of the existing hoses in place and just cap the disconnected macerator hose in the head. I could remove the macerator and hose from the thru-hull barbs, and install a short, capped hose section. Is there a better, safer, more definitive option (short of removing the fitting entirely and patching the hole in the hull?)? Open to suggestions.....
