View the latest post Carver 450 Voyage - Hardtop Version
- Posted by: cliffmattson » November 19th, 2024, 10:21 am
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
Good day everyone.
I am in the process of acquiring the above named Carver, specifically for doing the Loop. My only concern is the bridge clearance for the hardtop version. I do know that electronics will need to be removed but I'm concerned that the hardtop version may still not clear the lowest bridge on the loop.
Is there anyone in this forum with this first hand experience on the Loop with a Carver 450 - Hardtop Version?
I think it will be a challenge to get an actual accurate measurement sitting in the water. I have some ideas on how to do this but would feel more secure if someone actually has first hand experience.
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone! My name is Israel swartz, I’m from North Carolina, I just picked up a 1989 carver montego 2557, it’s the first cabin cruiser I have owned so this is all new to me, trying to figure it all out as I go, love the boat so far!, after getting the boat and looking at more 2557s up online I noticed that some are a little different then mine like the cabin is set up different and some are the same and also the back of the boat near the swim platform some 2557s go up higher in the back then others, I’m just curious are some just different models or something? Anyway I’m excited to get to know people on here and hope I can learn a lot

- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
First I would like to say I'm excited to have this boat and look forward to all your comments and input.
I know that it has been beat to death about the switch and the estimated cost if I have it don't by someone but I do not plan on having it done by anyone I'm doing all work my self.
So wouldnliek to know what equipment as far as transmission, any other big ticket items I would need to buy.
I have already two LBZ engines ready to use. Props I'm ready to buy the shafts I will be having machined for me just need to know sizes and info. So basically I just need details and or prints I could follow.
Its being transported out of slip soon and I will be hopefully starting working on her over the winter.
All three engines were submerged they were not started and I know I could trying to get water out and just flush them but I would like to convert to diesel as I would like to keep as a long term boat at least 10 plus years
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Forum: The Project Center
Hello friends,
This is my first boat ever -> 1987 Carver 3297 project boat.
The metal frame around the windshield and the side windows has faded pretty bad, so, this last weekend I started on the port side, I cleaned off the metal and applied my first coat of gloss black…..
Honestly, it looks great from a far but up close, you can see the brush marks….should I sand the metal down after the first coat and re-apply a second coat or should I use the rust oleum spray can and spray it on, and alleviate the brush strokes all together?
I am just a basic member - can I post pictures as a basic member?
Kindly,
v/r,
Stephen

View the latest post Kohler 10EOZD Diesel Generator - Start Problem

Kohler 10EOZD Diesel Generator
Went to start yesterday and the starter would engage, engine try to spin over, starter disengage. Engine would turn about 10 degrees before stopping. I took a screw driver and manually spun the engine to make sure nothing was locked up. Seems fine.
Tried again, same problem. If you hold the start button, it will show CC1 on the status display while trying to crank. Then display goes blank when starter stops. If you keep holding the start the crank cycle repeats after about 1 second and then stops again immediately. Keeps repeating.
I have very limited access (basically no access) to the back side where the starter is at.
I don't believe it is a fuse problem since it does try to crank. Not sure if it is a relay problem on the controller board since the starter immediately disengages. Not sure if it is a starter problem not properly engaging.
I also am not sure of the starter part number in the manual. I believe it is 344743-P but not 100% sure and can't seem to find one online by that number that is available from a reputable place that I normally utilize like Marine Parts Source.
Anyone run into this problem before on this or similar generator?
Anyone have an idea of the part number for the starter (not sure I want to buy just to find out that is not the problem at a cost of several hundred bucks).
I will probably be calling Marine Parts Source or Kohler tomorrow to see what they say.
Thanks

1987 28ft voyager w/ twin 230 mercruisers I've replaced belts 50 hrs ago now they squel on startup for 2-3 minutes using napa gates belts. Also increasing load quickly makes them chirp. they seam too skinny for the pulleys. how would I find the correct belts and are there better belts available? Bothe engines do it but port is the worst.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 50 amp Shore power

- Forum: Electronics & Navigation
Hello just bought our 2008 Carver 41 CMY ( which is now wrapped for the winter) and I don't know what I don't know so please help

We have a single 50 amp male connection at the boat attached to a Y splitter into two 30s. Problem is the boat only works when both are plugged into 2 plugs at the pedestals.
We have a line 1 and line 2 setting on the panel but not sure if that has the ability to make the boat work with only one 30 plugged in and we just regulate power.
Any insight ?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 440 Battery Box & Batteries
- Posted by: wsp2 » November 13th, 2024, 12:12 pm
- Forum: Electrical
I was looking at installing either a new inverter (original one was only like 600W and is 30 yrs old, doesn't appear to even work) or a combination charger/inverter. After looking at info on batteries in general I think I have some other issues and would appreciate any recommendations or feedback. This is on a 1995 440 aft cabin.
For starters, my boat only appears to have two starting batteries in the battery box. These provide power for starting the engines and supply house power. The web site gives no Amp-hour rating for the batters. Will this be a problem running an inverter off the starting batteries other than the fact I could run a risk of draining the starting battery? There are two other batteries - one for starting the generator and one for the bow thruster.
Should I split the batteries and have one dedicated to starting and get a deep cycle for house power? Or add batteries, although I have no idea where I'd put them?
There's a battery selector switch which was set a "Both" when I bought the boat so I've never changed it. Been reading up on how that should work.
Next, my batteries always have some water on the top. I know a few things can cause this, but my battery box is not ventilated at all. I'm also in a high humidity area (Houston, TX). I'm thinking about cutting a hole in the lid and installing some sort of screen, although I sit on the lid when working back there. About how much vent area is needed for that?
Thanks!

- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Howdy all! I have a (new to me) 2004 366 a/c and have started noticing how low she seems to sit in the water…most concerning is the bow thru hull for the forward A/C discharge. See pic. Currently the water tank (that resides under the aft bed) is empty and the side fuel tanks are full. Only other change is the new bow thruster and two batteries in the fwd cabin that total 170lbs. I looked for pix of others for sale and the few bow shots low enough seemed to all show that discharge within an 1” or so of the waterline it was never very clear. Anyone here with same model that can weigh in, hopefully with a clear pic, to ease my mind or let me know I need to make changes?

View the latest post Thoughts on a 406 that lives in salt water
- Posted by: VicB » November 8th, 2024, 10:15 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
We are looking at. 99, Carver 406 that started its life in Virginia, then 13 years in New York, then North Carolina. Don’t know if those were fresh or saltwater years. In May of this year someone bought it, put roughly 200 hours spending the summer with wife and 3 small children taking it from NC to the Florida Keys. They finished the summer in the pan handle and now want a bigger boat. The boat appears to be in very good shape. New owner replaced all fuel lines and hoses. That was the only thing of substance that came from the pre purchase survey that I saw from last May. If bought, it will live on the TN river. I’ve always been in fresh water and don’t know much about boats that live in saltwater. It has Cummins 6BTA engines with 1017 hours. Going to see it this week. Would love advice on what to look for, what’s no big deal and what to avoid. We currently have a 3807 and have a lot of experience, it’s just always been with fresh water boats.
Thanks in advance,
Vic
