Post Carver 406 - All leaks found repaired - Dry Bilge

I have a few posts that I have replied to over time and thought all of these would be helpful in one place.

When I purchased this boat in December of 22 every Bilge had water in it including those that didn't lead to a pump in the limber holes. Like under the black water tank in the master state room. These are the areas where I found leaks and repaired or replaced the parts and now have a completely dry hull:

Engines - On the port engine there was a leaky elbow on the bottom of the exhaust manif ...

Post 1995 Carver 325 Aft Cabin

Hi Folks
My friend and I are buying a boat between us, and were looking for an after cabin, island bed layout. We've seen a Carver 325 Aft Cabin, which we really like.

We have had smaller diesel engined boats before, and this Carver (like a lot of US boats) has twin gas / petrol engines. We were a bit concerned that the fuel consumption might be a bit scary with petrol.

Has anyone any experience of what we would expect from fuel consumption?

The boat has twin Volvo 5.8fi 265hp Petrol Engines on sta ...

Post Polarity lights indicators questions...

Appreciate your reading.

355 Aft Cabin. Electrical panel. Two polarity indicators/lights; red green.

Couple of boat electricians came out...did some buss and wiring repairs. 2 separate companies.

Here's where they don't agree. One says the indicators should flicker green meaning correct connections. Other guy says no...should be solid bright green always and these indicators should be replaced...old and worn out.

Been looking for replacements to no avail. Great Lakes Skipper..none. West Marine none ...

Post Coolant Leaks

I have a 2002 410 Sport Sedan. 8.1L Mercruisers for engines. Marina winterized the boat. When I came back in this spring after the boat was launched, the coolant on both engines was all in the hull. Both reservoirs let go. Marina did a check and said it was the coolant reservoir plugs and replaced those. Came back this weekend noticed that there was small amount of coolant in the hull on each side. Ran the engines in the slip for 30 mins taking them up to 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm for about ...

Post Shaft Seal Stern Tube Dimensions

Hi Everyone,

I'm hauling out next week and in addition to the usual paint/zincs/wax work, we will be replacing the corroded and leaking shaft seals on port shaft. I'll be using the same Tides Marine dripless system that is currently on the shaft.

Does anyone know what our stern tube OD size is on our 1998 355's? I'd really like to get those parts in before we begin the removal process and based on information on the Tides website, there could be several possible sizes.

Thanks for any help!

Post Suggestions for replacement of hot water tank

My 2000 396 Aft Cabin has a leaking hot water tank. I have ordered a replacement but I am looking for any words of wisdom for an easy replacement process. The tank is located under the berth in the aft cabin. The removal looks straight forward but I am guessing there are some things about the reinstallation which a pro already knows.

I am hoping someone can provide some "tricks of the trade" so I can avoid any problems.

Thanks.

Post Port engine shudder and drop in RPMs

My 2000 396 aft cabin has twin 454 Mercruiser engines. This week the port engine would shudder and drop RPMs when brought up to about 3000 rpms or more.

I added fuel additive and changed the filter on that engine but the problem persisted. There was no issue with the engine below 3000 rpms. There is no issue with the starboard engine.

Any thoughts?

Post Carver 405 fuel tanks, pickup tubes

Hello all, I have a 1999 405. My fuel tanks were made by Florida Marine. Has anyone here ever tried to take the fuel pickup tube out of their tanks for cleaning. I took off the anti-syphon check valve and the 90 degree elbow that screws into the top of the tank but it is difficult to tell if the pickup tube is just a really tight fit or welded in. Mine appear to be welded in.

The tank in question is the starboard main tank and it is the fuel pickup for the Kohler 8E generator that I'm trying to r ...
