Post 1976 Mariner 2896 stuffing box

So i'm going to tighten my stuffing box for the first time and was told the starboard shaft has left handed threads? Does that sound right? So would I loosen the lock nut by going clockwise instead of counter and the adjusting nut counter clockwise? Opposite for the port side I assume. And could they put that in a harder place to adjust under the V-drive?!? Thanks.

Post New owner of a 84 Carver Mariner 3697

A pleasure to meet you all! I have a huge project for a boat but she seems like a good boat already. Her name is "Miracle" because my son said it was impossible to get her out of the marina. Will contribute what I can and definitely will read lots of your wisdom!

Post Regarding Risers

I have Crusader 6.0 fresh water cooled engines. When I purchased the boat in 2017 I changed the risers because she was losing antifreeze.

My question for the crew: Do you schedule a change in risers as part of your maintenance schedule? If yes, how many years between changes. If no, when do you bother replacing them?

I had an issue with a tranny cooler once and had to replace the transmission due to the cooler failure. I plan to have those changed out along with the engine oil coolers every 5- ...

Post TV Installation on 1994 320 Voyager

Hello everyone! I have just purchased my first Carver...a 1994 320 Voyager Flybridge...and I LOVE it! My wife and I plan to spend a good deal of time on the boat. It did not have a tv installed when we purchased it. We'd like to add one in the salon as well as one in the cabin. I have looked everywhere for information on the best way, and location, to mount a tv in each of these locations on the boat but have been unable to find anything.

Any advice from others who have installed tvs in th ...

Post E01 error Code on Salon hvac

Background- New to me 1998 405 Aft Cabin, 7.4 Horizon engines. The previous owner replaced both forward and Salon HVAC units this year before my purchase. Installed Webasto units.

I noticed on night 2 of our trip bringing the boat home, the salon A/C unit (which also cools the master stateroom) stopped working during the night and had an E01 code. I did a quick Google search and found that it’s “Compressor High Pressure” fault. Likely fix recommendation was clean filter/condenser. I wrote that ...

Post Fuel management (diesel)

I thought Id ask the group before crawling all over my boat tracking down hoses... Transfer Valves. ... In the aft cabin closet there are 4 transfer valves. I cannot find in the 430 owner's manual which transfer valve is for which tank and they are not labeled. They appear to be OEM. Does anybody know which valve is for which tank? and which position they need to be in for normal operation?

Post Fumes in salon.1

I was just reading a recent post about changing the 'fuel fill lines' on a vessel and I would like to get your thoughts on an issue which I have not yet resolved.

A couple of months ago I posted about complaints from the Admiral regarding 'engine compartment' or 'fuel smell' in the salon. I got some very good feedback from the crew on this forum however, after doing everything that I can think of doing; the problem has not been resolved.

While winterizing the engines with my mechanic he noticed a ...
