Post Low Shore Power Voltage Issue.

OK, so our toaster and small oven seem to be heating poorly. Checked voltage at the plugs and see only 101 volts. Checked voltage at both shore power outlets on the pedestal and get 117 on both of them. Fired up the generator and get 117 volts at the outlets on the boat which is what I should be seeing. My shore power comes in via dual 30amp feed lines into a reverse Y adapter, 50a cord and into an isolation transformer which outputs the power to 2 individual 120volt circuits labeled shore power ...

Post Carver sinking and lessons learned

I saw this article in Prop Talk, and thought I would bring it to the forum, because the boat involved was a Carver. I think the folks that lost their boat made a good move reinforcing the engine vents, though they aren’t absolutely sure that the vents caused the issue.

Post Smart TV

It seems older smart TVs are not as quick or do not have as many features/choices like the newer units do. Problem is a 5 or 6 year old 4k or even 1080p tv will probably last the lifetime of the boat except the smart TV part seems to get outdated in form and function just like a cell phone.

I did a little homework and ended up with an Amazon Fire TV stick ti update the smart tv part of the television, cheap and fast with all the goodies anyone could ask for. The only issue is they need to be powe ...

Post Where do you shop?

Been up shopping for hours and every time I get ready to pull the trigger on a purchase, I do a quick google search to review the company. It seems that no matter the company the most recent reviews are not so great. Maybe related to the mess of the last two years - maybe other factors. Either way, the last thing I want to worry about is whether my parts order is going to make it to me in one piece and I'll actually get what I ordered!

Post Vacuflush Help

Calling all Vacuflush experts!

Today on the last day or our one week cruise the Vacuflush system started making a 'banging' sound when the vacuum pump is working. Way out of the normal flushing sound.

I called Dometic technical support who suggested that it could be a quick fix and they referred me to the local distributor. He suggested that it can be any number of things and referred me to a service guy he uses. I placed a call and don't expect to her back any time soon.

There is no leaking. The ...

Post 2000 carver 406 AC thru-hull

Hello,

Issue: AC thru-hull valve seemly only opens part way. Seems to shut off, just not open fully???. With both AC units on, one goes into high head pessure I think. Believe isue is not enough water flow to support both AC units.

Any options with handle (solid pulls does not budge it more than about 1/2 way to tab)

Can anything be done bottom side in the water? (help to open or validate amount of open)

To replace this thru-hull can it be done in the water or does it require haul out?

Any and all ...

Post Swimming at Anchor with Generator Running

Ok, I’ve searched the topic above with no hits. The cruiser lifestyle is new to us and we’ll do the Survey/Sea trial next week on a 1998 405 Aft Cabin; 7.4 Horizon engines; 10 kw Kohler Generator. I’ve owned smaller boats most of my life, but none with onboard generator. I’ve also read hours and hours on this forum about the various systems. I feel I have avg/above avg mechanical knowledge and comprehend what I’ve read. I’ve also read many threads on this forum about the electrical systems and ...

Post Bluesea SOC Monitor

I have no more need for this unit. Was installed inside the cabin so it is in perfect condition. Comes in original packaging with everything except the manual which is available on line.

Why am I selling? With the Lithium house bank upgrade I elected to install quite a few Victron Energy brand items and since I wanted everything to talk together I ordered their bluetooth smart shunt.

Asking $175 US or $220 CAD. Ideally Paypal. Pretty good deal as they go for almost $300 US. Shipping included.

Post Oil Pressure

HI,
I have a 1989 Carver with Crusader 454 7.4 engines. The oil pressure gauge on one engine is not working. My first thought was the pressure sender, replaced that - did not fix it. It has dual stations, so I am pretty confident both gauges are not broken. Not sure what my next step might be.

Suggestions please.

Thanks
Mitch
