Post Sleeping in boat

We’ve got a two overnighter planned for Sunday and Monday night at a boat in campground. Bought the cuddy specifically for boat camping and this will be our first chance to use it as such. The family is really looking forward to it!

Post 1994 440 MY potential purchase

Hello Carver fans!

We love the Carver layouts and have been looking at several. I have the opportunity to get a '94 440 for a decent price. We boat fresh water inland lake and don't do too many hours on boat annually. We are moving from a '97 Silverton 360 Express to this potential 440. This is gas powered (not my preferred but what is available) w/ 454Xl Crusaders sitting at 780ish hours. For context, I've put 300 hours on my boat in the last 10 years so not high hour usage.

*IF* the boat ...

Post What is the oldest glass boat you have bought RECENTLY.

So the title kinda explains it, but I got to wondering how far back you can go and still not rebuild the entire structure. This meaning stringers/tanks etc. How are these boats holding up. Obviously it would matter who owned them but in general how are they withstanding abuse.

We were talking the other day ( the boss and I , she said no !!!! ) and I am now perhaps considering a 28' Riv or Mariner from the 80's, probably the riv ( easy trailer )....kinda like going back in time... :-O ,,..someth ...

Post A couple of questions

Does anyone know what the three holes are used for at the back edge of the swim deck (circled in red) ?
(Hopefully the picture is attached).

Also, how or does the shade/screen unlatch from the forward hatch? Mine will not unlatch. The surveyor noted this as a safety concern in case of an emergency egress. (Hopefully a picture is attached for this too).

Thanks in advance for replying.

Post Mantus M2

Looking at the Mantus M2 65lbs for my 2000 450 Voyager. I called them and the sales guy "thinks" it will fit on the bow roller with no issues. (M2 is the one with the roll bar.) My bow roller is the factory original setup, no modifications.

Two questions:

1) He recommends the 65lbs since I will be anchoring over night at times. I get the concept of "you can never have too big of an anchor" but the other recommendations on other anchor sites say 45 to 50lbs is more than enough for the 450.

2) Anyo ...

Post New here - and needing training

Hi everyone,

My wife and I have a contract on a 2002 396 scheduled for haul-out/survey in a couple of weeks. :-D Pending no issues and the closing goes well, we are going to need some training by a USCG licensed skipper for insurance purposes. :captain2:

The boat is moored in Wildwood New Jersey so we would prefer a skipper near that area and who is very familiar with the Carver line, particularly one similar to ours. But that is definitely not a requirement - just a wish list! :-) Any offer ...

Post Hynautic H-50 helm leaking & unknown pump

So I have a 1985 Carver Voyager 28 I bought last summer. This weekend the fly bridge helm started spitting steering fluid out onto the dash panel. Nothing underneath or behind. I’m assuming a seal has let go and time for a rebuild. Kits are readily available so shouldn’t be a problem getting them. Has anyone here done a rebuild on an h-50? Any pointers? Also, there is a pump located within a few feet of the hynautic reservoir in the engine space. Can anyone identify this? Power assisted steering ...

Post Riviera bilge issue - how to access?

As always, the manual no help. Fwd bilge (lowest point of bilges) will not drain unless I use a sump pump and drain hose. I thought there was no pump in that part of the bilge, but when I stuck my head down the hatch under the fwd table with a flashlight I could see there is a pump way up tight against the V. I can see no way to access that pump in order to replace it, and it would take a heck of a lot of water in the boat before the other bilge pumps (all in higher bilges) would trigger.

I would ...

Post Does your sofa/lounge have this?

I have only seen this hard plastic lounge base on a couple of 396s in our search. Does anyone here have this option who can definitively tell me what this is? I know that with this option there is only one recliner vs two. It looks like storage but I couldn't figure out how to open it! :help:

Thanks so much!!
Kyle
