Post Anyone done a recent Chart Plotter upgrade

Hello all,

Anyone done a recent chart plotter upgrade? if so, from what to what?

The Caption and I are considering upgrading our 2006 Carver 36MY Raymarine 120C chart plotter, but wonder what the most user friendly/cost effective choice would be? We have the "factory" Raymarine suite, 120C chart plotter, TRI data display, radome radar Raymarine, GPS.

Would a newer Raymarine chart plotter utilize our existing radome radar Raymarine, our would we have to upgrade that as well? The new Doppl ...

Post Drain and change Dex-Cool Generator Coolant

Anyone drain and change their Dex-Cool Generator coolant? I have a Kohler 7.3E and the overflow tank coolant color looks more brown than orange.

Is there a drain plug or other trick to draining most of the coolant from the Generator, before topping it off with "fresh orange" Coolant.

As always, informative suggestions much appreciated.

Cliff

Post Kohler 7.3E coolant replacement

Our 2006 Carver 36MY 7.3E generator coolant looks more brown than orange, as DEXCOOL should appear.

What's the crafty owner's tips/tricks to drain the old coolant in order to make room for new coolant, but avoid a major mess in the bilge.

I am aware that I need to utilize the air bleed plug across from the filler neck in order to release the air pocket.

My initial thought was to remove the temp sensor to drain from there.

I don't see a good low point accessible drain plug. Maybe I'm missing somethin ...

Post Fresh Water Pump

This maybe a stupid question but asking anyway. I have a 97 Carver 350 Mariner. If I hook my hose up to the dock freshwater and connect the other end of the hose to my boat, do I need to use the water pump or does it automatically pressurize with hose attached to the dock water? What about water heater? Thanks for any advise.

Post Duct Condensation 3807 Salon Unit

We've got an '88 model 3807 that we totally love, but the AC ducting off of the Salon unit continuously sweats to the point that dripping water seeps back underneath the aft cabin walls and wets the carpet. I've been able to get insulation around all the ductwork for the aft cabin unit and the v-berth unit, but the way that the duct is chased inside the wall pocket separating the salon from the aft cabin vanity desk is driving me crazy! The flex duct appears to be squeezed into a flattened ova ...

Post Purchased 444, Few questions

Hi, I just contracted a 2003 444 with Volvo TAMD63's. The broker gave me a recent survey from a deal that fell through so I don't expect any big surprises when I have my own survey done.

There is a list of things I want to fix after I take possession. Most of the list I have a handle on. I am very much a DYI type, long time motor head but never touched a diesel.

1. I want to add the ability to monitor fuel flow. What are my options?

-Can I go with Flow Scan, or does the TAMD63' have a tank ret ...

Post Technical drawings 25 Montego

Hi all, new to the forum, and new to owning a Carver. It's just an older one, but Im really into it. 30 years old, and every things works great, really like the craftsmanship from this era. I'm based over here in New Zealand, so things are a bit harder to find...but any chance anyone has access to any old technical drawings? I have a 1989 Montego 2557 that's a bit different, the twin mercs and legs are gone, replaced with a 454 and a Hamilton jet. Still a few tuning things to sort out, but runni ...

Post Spiral Stairs - the long and winding ......

20210220_105533.jpg
Well, as I mentioned in the topic on spiral stairs, we bit the bullet and ordered a set for our 85 3607. I thought I would start a separate topic for our journey in attaching them. It took about 3 weeks from when we ordered to arrival. We unwrapped most of it on Friday night to see if we could figure out how they went together. There are no instructions!!! We were sent a photo to refer to. Went up to the boat on Saturday with great expectations!!! Sadly they were not m ...

Post New Canadian Member

Hi All:

We've jumped in deep with a '98 Carver 53 (Cummins 450's)--we've spent a year searching for the right boat. It took over 2 months to conclude the sale. Sea trials (yup multiple) showed some issues that hadn't cropped up earlier. So...with some new parts and some servicing we took possession a few days back.

Glad to be here (Sidney BC) and looking forward to learning from all of you.

Rob.

Post Carver 506 Pilot house and sun deck light switch?

Hey!

Can I get a little help? I just bought a Carver 506, 2000 and cannot locate the sundeck light switches. I found the courtesy lights along floor, panel lights and dome light but cannot find the ones on the enclosed aft sundeck. I’ve tried the two courtesy lights by pilot house stairs and the rocker switch for under water light to no avail. I even changed out all bulbs and tried all switches in the cabinet to the side of the helm. Also made sure all switches were on in box to the aft cabin. W ...
