Post Good news and bad news

First the good....a guy came into the store the other day with a new stainless steel, high gloss Danforth anchor. Asked if we could consign it and I said sure thing. Then he said OR, if you would just want to buy it, you can have it for $50. Geez, OK.
Now the bad...my hydraulic steering fluid started leaking out of the helm. Checked fittings on other side, hoses, all check out good, so it is coming out of the helm pump as far as I can tell. The helm is the original, so probably needs replace ...

Post Crusader 350 oil and filter

Hello. I have been fighting with overheating on one of the engines for almost a year now. I think the problem is the belt for the impeller becaus i CAN not find anything else and of course the correct belt size is a pain in the A** to find in sweden but tomorrow i will alter the mounts to get a easy to get belt to fit. If anyone needs a belt with random size i have a nice stock of belts....
But now i want/need to change the oil and filter. What Oil filter is correct. The engines has "Man 940/1" f ...

So far the genset is running OK, A little surge when starting then down to business. I bought a Governor Spring, but it is different than the one I have, so I left well enough alone. Changing out the overflow hose soon, as I believe there is a compromise in it, not allowing the coolant to return to the hat exchanger. NOW, s I was poking about, I saw this little ditty off of the side of the carburetor. It is pointing forward. I didn’t see any hose/tubing that was connected too it, but it is also ...

Post Volvo vs Cummins, and other 530 Voyager stuff

- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
Hello folks, I’ve searched through and read a lot of forum posts, but I want to get a bit more specific on a couple of questions. We are thinking of upsizing a few feet and doing some cruising in the Bahamas in the winter months. We currently have a 40 footer which is great, but just want a little more room if it’s going to be the winter condo. We like the pilot house style, so in the 50 foot range with a maximum boat per dollar analysis, there are a few choices - the 530 Voyager, the Bayline ...

Post Engine Replacement on 355 Aft
- Posted by: Jasonm71 » July 2nd, 2020, 2:36 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Hey everyone
First post here.
This is my second carver. I inherited a 91 355 Aft Cabin from my brother in law who passed away a year ago.
Short version, a belt snapped when he was underway and didn’t catch it until too late and overheated and blew the port engine.
He used to build race engines, so he bought a complete replacement engine to install himself. We removed the old engine and I have an engine to install. Problem is, I don’t have his skills or talent, so I need someone to do this for me ...

Post Gas Smell
- Posted by: Struggler » July 2nd, 2020, 11:32 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
I’ve searched for this topic and have some ideas based on posts that I’ve found, but wanted to throw this out here....after running, I am smelling gas. Not after fueling. I’ve looked at fuel fill lines and vent lines and don’t see visible gas/moisture. Poked around fuel lines to the carbs and don’t see much.
Could it be just the gas in the carbs that I’m smelling?
I’ve let the blower run for 30 minutes or so after shutdown which I think helps a bit. I plan on idling 1 engine at a time to try and ...

Post Running the Genny at night?
- Posted by: Marty » July 1st, 2020, 8:03 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Looking for opinion here....
I do not run the genny all night to run the AC (although I would appreciate the cooling), as we have a gas unit that is underneath the salon in our aft cabin.
My concern was carbon dioxide issues.
I do have 3 CO2 detectors on board but the risk isn't worth it in my opinion.
Any thoughts otherwise?
Thanks and Happy Canada Day to the Canadians on board.

I recently purchased a 1977 Carver Santa Cruz for $300. I know it ran shortly before it was confiscated because the owner "borrowed" someone's trailer and never returned it. We put some holes in the hull while jacking it up off the tires to put it on my friend's trailer. I have patched those already. The engine cover was left off and the engine was submerged by rainwater. I am now beginning my adventure of getting the engine running and sorting out the wiring nightmare the previous owner left fo ...

Post Engine sync gauge vs. rpm's
- Posted by: Dark Horse » June 30th, 2020, 12:41 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
The other day while taking my boat on its maiden voyage, I noticed that when the engine sync gauge was right in the middle (synced) the rpm's were off on the two motors.
If I matched the rpm's the sync gauge was off.
As this is my first boat with dual motors I'm curious to which is preferred.
And how would I correct the difference if that is in fact possible?

Post Carver 444 Shower leak
- Posted by: Michclay » June 30th, 2020, 9:20 am
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
We've recently purchased a 2004 Carver 444. After using the shower a few times without issue, we are starting to notice a rust color water leaking from where the master shower meets the bathroom floor. THere is some caulking there and it seems to be leaking from a crack in the caulking. Any ideas on what could be leaking? Suggestions on how to fix? Thank you in advanced for your help.
