Post Potable Water Filtration

I have always used a home made setup for water filtration as we drink the water from our tank and have been doing so for the last 25 years in no less than 4 boats. Tank must be well maintained which includes an annual bleach/chlorine shock treatment. I learned a long time ago when purchasing something make sure the replacement units are standard otherwise you will not find them or they are ridiculously expensive which is a been there done that when it comes to replacement filter cartridges.

I like the 1990 Carver 3608 but I can’t seem to find if they are solid fiberglass below the waterline or cored.

Post How to get to the aft Vacuflush on a 41 CMY

Happy beginning of summer, finally!
My vacuflush kicks in intermittently. Still holds water in the bowl and works fine just starts pressurizing randomly. I called Dometic (it's a VG 12VDC) and they said it's probably the duck bills. I have a panel in the aft stateroom fwd locker thats roughly 18' h x 12" w. I can see it through the wood frame. it looks like there's fiberglass hood around it.I The unit is fwd of the bed so I took off the mattress and there doesn't seem to be any type of access at ...

Post USCG Documentation

Hello all.
Today a I received a letter from the "Vessel Documentation Portal" claiming my documentation is set to expire.

The Website www.vesselrenewal.us and the letter sure look like they are from the USCG, but it is some type of service that will renew your docs for $75.00 not the $26.00 I just paid the USCG last month for the same service.

That's a major mark up for a zero value service, beware!

Post Gel coat

On 6/3/20,sanded taped and gel coated the port side deck on my 28' Carver.Today 6/5,did the other side.Used a 3" high nap roller that left the surface with a little texture that isn't slippery. Looks so much better. Also had to fix GPS/depth finder.Tracked it down to a ground wire that needed a new end on the buss bar.

Post Bilge pump breakers

Ok guys, on my 356 next to my battery switch, there are 3 breakers for the bilge pumps and 2 for the sump pumps. They are not your standard breaker panel breaker switches.

How do you switch them on and off?

Post Hello! Newbie here

Glad to have found this resource! Bought my first cruiser last summer 1985 carver Riviera aft cabin 28. Boats in beautiful condition, hope to keep it that way! Been boating my whole life, but owning a cruiser has opened my eyes to how much I dont know about these boats.
I like to try and do my own work when possible, so I'm sure I'll be here a lot!
Cheers!

Post 97 405 Aft Holding Tank Odors/Venting

My marina seems to have a hard time emptying my aft tank so I’m getting a bad odor. They think it’s because there is one vent for the 2 tanks. Does/has anyone else had this issue? If so , any suggestions for how to fix this? I find sometimes when I flush some odor escapes inside the cabin so maybe have air leaching and preventing them from pumping it out empty? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Post 396 Dinghy Davits

Wondering what others have for dinghy davits and what the weight limits are?

Our 2001 has 500# one but would like to get a bigger dinghy. The new dinghy would probably be in the 700#-900# range.

TIA

Doug

Post Shaft Packing

Good morning, I am in the process of learning all about shaft packing. I was in the bilges of my 1985 3227 tightening my packing nut. I realized as I was wedged between the engines that this should have been something I looked at out of the water, lesson learned. I managed to get the flow of water cut in half. But I think I need to repack it correctly. I was wondering, before I went and bought a micrometer or some type of measuring gauge if any one knows the right size of packing for the 3227 wi ...
