Post water leak from arch area 2006 Carver 36 MY

I believe we have a water leak coming from the arch area of our 2006 36MY Carver (leaking from the access panels) . I understand after 14yrs we may need to re-caulk some things?

What's the best way to access the arch area? I'm assuming (as I've never done it) that I un-zip the helm canvas and slide loose the areas attached to the arch? so I can stand/kneel on the ledge behind the helm seat ? how much canvas needs to be un-done to release the arch area?

When it comes to "un-doing" the various m ...

Post Fuel / Water separator with bowl

While I am getting more and more familiar with our new boat, I am also starting to replace parts or stock up on spares. Installed are Sierra 18-7949 filters with metal drain bowls. I cannot find where Sierra has offered this package, only the filter and bowl separate. So I guess my next question is, how much longer life can I expect from the filter being able to drain from the bowl vs. a filter without a drain? Below is a snip from the Sierra website with their replacements and then a pic of my ...

Post Found parts for obsolete bow thruster!

Hey Guys, I stripped out the gears on my QL BP1200 bow thruster. Tried to order new parts but they are obsolete and no longer available. After a lot of searching I found a new company called thrusterparts.com that is selling gears for Volvo Penta QL BP series thrusters. I ordered a set, had them installed and they work perfectly!

Post 89 Kohler genset won’t start

Hello, I have an 89 Carver 38 Santego with a 4 cylinder Kohler generator which has a magneto. It was running fine last season, when all of a sudden it just shut down, as though it ran out of gas while under normal light load. The starter turns over just as fast as normal, but the engine won’t even “cough” as though it’s not even trying to start up... just spins. The battery is new.

I disconnected the white kill wire to the magneto, but engine won’t start. I assume that means I’m dealing with an ...

Post 12 volt marine cables

I thought I would start a new thread as a bit of a sub-topic to the inverter and isolator thread.

I am researching places to buy cable. I have access to a crimping tool if I need one. I have found marine tinned cable at Jamestown Dist,, Fisherie Supply, Defender, and Best Boat Wire. I was wondering if there is a qualitative difference to the cabling sold ? Also, is there a place that is a go to, to buy cable, any of you have used? And finally, does anyone know a place that will make cables for y ...

Post Inverter cabling question

Ok. I installed a new Promariner 2000 PS inverter charger last year. Well, I did some of the work, and the “main electrical guy” on our lake did the rest. In order for the alternators to charge the battery while underway, I replaced the two alternator three battery bank diode charger with ProIso 2 alt 4 battery version. The alternators put out 100 amps a piece. Promariner said the circuit must be able to handle 200 amps, the total of the two alternators.

I was having trouble keeping the inverter ...

Post Window seal replacement

Where in the world can I find aft cabin windows or seals? The bottom seals are rotting so bad, I’ve got MOSS growing in the channels and water intrusion from there may ruin my sidewalls! Any help is greatly appreciated!
