Post Vent fan for galley in 396

Hello all,

I recently installed a vent fan and duct system for the stove in my 2004 396.( this is the one with the dinette layout.) I used a cheap inline bilge blower and good quality flexible hose. I chose a closable heat system type intake so I can close it off when not in use. I installed a little rocker switch above the microwave so it wasn't right over the cooktop. I used the electric feed for the front cabin DVD, which no one uses anymore. Between removing the microwave, and the back panel ...

Post Hello all!

Just wanted to say hi to all from Louisiana! We will be finishing up the deal on our "new to us" 2000 406 Aft cabin next week and then shortly after motoring her home from Texas to Louisiana. We are not new to the boating world, only new to the cruiser style. We have been running a 28' 700 hp catamaran all along the gulf coast attending as many poker runs and go-fast events as we can and now we are going to enjoy our time on the water at a slower pace. :captain:

P.S. we are still comparing insu ...

Post Wankel engine for small boat?

Curious if any of you have any knowledge of an old (~73?) Wankel engine that was used for small boats. This is NOT an outboard, but a single rotor engine with a lower unit to drive a prop. This does not pivot, so it still needs a rudder, and I don't believe there's a transmission, so once the engine is running you're in fwd gear (like the old PWCs!)

I just picked this up as a project. Thought it might just be a "show" piece for the garage, but I believe it's complete enough to get running. ...

Post 450 Voyager crane

I am going to fit a crane (Davit) to my 450 Voyager as it has not had the factory one fitted. Does anyone know if the pole passes right through the top deck down to the salon floor or is it only terminated at the fly bridge floor under the seats. I assume they set up all the hulls to take a crane if ordered. Thanks

Post 396 Side Door latch'ish

Hey All;

Ok, so my 396 was getting tucked away for a nice winters slumber when one of the deck hands jammed the side door closed without lifting the "plunger latch" on the side door. when pushing it back, the bottom plunger that goes into the hole broke off.

Trying to research the part and mechanism to fix it, but seem to be striking out. does anyone have any idea where I can find the parts manual for the door?

Thanks all!

Post New Carver Owner

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum but not to boating. I have recently moved onto my Mariner 32 and I am enjoying every minute if it. I am looking forward to picking your brains and getting your input on things when issues pop up. Thank you in advance.

Post Any Idea What This Gizmotronic Is?

Must have been a raging storm on the Eastern shore of Lake Huron. There are bits of dock, trees, surf boards you name it - any manner of flotsam imaginable has washed up.

The once sandy beach is all stones and large ones at that. The dunes and seagrass are washed to the treeline. My muskoka chairs are one with the universe now.

In all the chaos I found this thing though. Looks like it could be a boating thing but hard to tell. No markings that I can find.

I am impressed with how robust t ...

Post 405 bow plowing

Hi folks,

I have. 97 Carver 405 that rides low in the bow. It plows. I have tried various rpm’s, from 1200 to 2000, and I’m told the bow is way down. The spray is nearly up to the gunnels. I,ve also been having issues with water coming into the fwd bilge. Over 6 gallons during a 6-7 hr cruise. Related? I did discover a leak in the fwd A/C condensate line to the shower sump. Hopefully I fixed that. We’ll see tomorrow.

We checked the trim tabs and have them turned up as high as they will go. I’ll ...

Post First time boat owner

Hello all,
Just picked up my Santa Cruz Carver today. 28’ long, 10’ beam, 7.3 Diesel engine, single screw. Boat is mechanically sound and needs some cosmetic work. Other than that, it’s just some touching up. Any recommendations that I should work on first? Also, where is the best site to purchase items or accessories specific for Carver rather than “universal”?
