Post Time to Move On

We bought Agradecida (grateful in Spanish), a 2003 356, last September. She was near perfect when we surveyed her. We spent the winter buffing and updating her electronics package in anticipation of our up coming summer. When it finally arrived we put her in the water in Racine Wisconsin in mid April. Mid June we left for our trip to Door County Wisconsin where we spent a month and a half living on her. About half way through our trip the admiral said "why do we have a boat, an apartment in Raci ...

Post Getting Close

The end of my season is closing in fast. Saturday I dumped in some Stabil and motored over to the fuel dock to top off my tanks. 71 gallons and $330 dollars later my tanks were full. I then motored out on to the Detroit River and ran a couple miles up river and back to burn off some fuel. I figured that I burned off about 3 gallons from each tank.

I will probably take another short ride the day I motor over to the lift to be pulled from the water. All in all its been a pretty good season. I did ...

Post Air Conditioning Pump/Sump Pump WTF

My air conditioning has been frosting up and one of the kind forum members here mentioned that it was likely that the water wasn't circulating properly. This turned out to be bang on the money because over the next few days the pump started to struggle and not much was coming out of the through-hull. Time to investigate.

I opened up the strainer to see if it needed cleaning but it seemed pretty good. Then I closed the strainer and turned the system back on - the pump ...

Post My boat was pulled today and I discovered....

Today, she was brought onto the hard and I discovered a first for me.

One of the blades on the bow thruster (port side fan) was completely snapped off, and a second is now half of what it was!

During the season the thruster failed and when I took a look below I pulled out a bunch of rope and rag from the thruster. It must have eaten the stuff while docking. I guess its probable that I pulled off the blade when I was cleaning out the debris. It did give me a bit of a fight and I was working bli ...

Post 2000 Carver 404 Survey - Percussion Test Failure

Hi we are nearing the final stages of our purchase of a Carver 404 and the survey has come back indicating several areas on the forward and side decks that did not pass the percussion test. The decks are stiff and show no signs of softness and I am wondering how serious these indications are?

The owner said that he has recently resealed the windlass and also where the base of the rails attach to the deck to prevent any further intrusion of moisture.

I have read that finding moisture in the co ...

Post Boy! That water is COLD!

Last night temps dipped down to around 35.

Got up to make coffee and wash up this morning and the water (city water connection to boat) was COLD!!

Figure all that water in the hose going to the boat, plus the water in the waterline under the dock got down to about 40ish last night.

Figured it was smarter to run the cold water for a while to flush all that REALLY cold water through before I took a shower, as the water in the city mains was probably closer to 55 or 60 and wouldn't cool down the ...

Post End of season near

Well All! Tomorrow is it for Cooler By The Lake. Lift at 1PM Central. Set on trailer, then 45 min trip to storage. That is when the Fall/Winter season starts and the off season maintenance begins. I am fortunate enough to store in warm storage, with unlimited access, so the only thing really missing is the rumble of those Crusaders and the adventure on the water. How did the season go so fast???? We did get 5.5 months in the water, but the weather was just weird for a lot of that. Oh well ...
