Post 1980 Voyager 3326 ... Update

Since I have not posted since we bought the boat, I thought I would give a update.

We bought it in June. We have used it quite a bit. Almost every week.

We did replace three batteries so all four are the same type and age. Also replaced the waste pump and the shower pump.

The built in air conditioning and heat work well as we have used both.

Everything functions as it should, however there are some of the original gauges that are not working, at the lower helm. Most upper gauges work. So ...

Post Drive Shaft Replacement

I broke the Starboard drive shaft on my '93 350 Aft Cabin just after it exits the hull. I'm having a hard time finding replacement parts.. The prop is a 22x22 and I think the shaft is 1 3/8". Any idea where I should be looking?

Is there any way to do this repair in the water?

Post 406 - travel lift or trailer haul out

Some where, sometime ago, I thought someone said that the Carver 406 aft cabin could only be moved with a travel lift. Could not be moved safely on a trailer?

I was always taken out of the water with a travel lift then moved to a spot in the yard (while still in the slings) and then put on blocks.

Now I have a new yard and they want to take me out of the water with a travel lift, then the lift

puts the boat on a trailer and the trailer moves the boat into its spot in the yard - like 1000ft over a ...

Post Cummins diesel batteries

My batteries are done.

I disconnected each battery, load tested and all registered as bad.

I am now looking at replacing all 4 batteries but want to make an educated choice.

Reading many articles on battery selection has only left me more confused.

My choice is now down to a MotoMaster Nautilus Ultra Group 31 AGM Deep Cycle Battery

1000 marine crank amps, 105 amp hours, 200 minutes reserve capacity

The price range of batteries leads me to believe that higher price may be better quality but I am skepti ...

Post questions for 396 owners

Hi everyone,

We've owned a 98 Mariner for 6 years and have really enjoyed it but it's beginning to be move up time. I'm looking at two 396s ( 2000 and 2001). The 2000 has the 8.1 and the 2001 has the 7.4. Both boats are well maintained fresh water low hour boats. My questions are thoughts on the two engine options. Are there any common issues to be aware of on these boats (we'll do a survey if we wind up deciding to buy). What do you like most/least about your boats?

Thanks in advance.

Doug

Post capitan seat pedestal screws ripped out

Hello everyone, I have a 97 carver 325 Aft and yesterday my Capitan seat pedestal screws ripped out of the deck because I leaned to far back in the seat. All the screws come out clean as the pedestal pulled away from the deck. There is no damage to the deck or the wood as I closely inspected the area and the holes. Looking into the screw hole, it appeared that there may be a metal like plate under the wood that the machine screws mounted into. Some people I asked said to re-drill new holes and u ...

Post Building a sofa for Carver 355

I plan to replace the original sofa in my 355 this winter. The old sofa is somewhat worn, but the biggest complaint I have is its so heavy. As you know, one has to move the sofa to service the port engine. I cannot lift it and have to take it apart (partially) to move it. I plan to build a sectional replacement. Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Unless someone sends me a plan, I will create my own plan and build a sectional replacement. I intend to design and build a frame; cove ...
