Post New Carver 396 Owner

I've been poking around on the forum for a few month's while searching the south-west for a Carver. We are now proud owners of a 2002 396. The boat we purchased is very clean and mechanically well taken care of. It does need a little polishing, Isinglass replaced and fresh batteries. I'm going to be asking for input on house batteries. We will be moving it to Southern CA. soon.

Here's a couple Pictures

Post Spongy spot on the bow

I have a 18" x 36" spongy area on the bow of my 36 Mariner. It has been that way for 10 years and has not changed but it is the only flaw on our boat.It is not structural but thinking about fixing the problem. What are my options in fixing this.can it be done from inside the boat or filled. Looking for anyone that has had this kind of issue. Thanks for the help.

Post 50 amp power y spec

I am currently away from my 396, but looking to come up with a solution for shore power.

Currently, I have a 50 amp (male) to two 50 amp y that allows to plug both 50 amp power cables coming from the boat into one connector ashore.

What I am looking to do is use one cord, with the y at the boat (female) end.

My question is this, what is the spec for the boat receivers, 50 amp 125v or 50 amp 125/240v

Post Advice on bottom paint???

It’s time to get the bottom painted. I’ve read so much, I now have no idea what should be done. It’s a 1988 3807. I currently have no interest in it seeing salt water at least as far into the future as I can see. It has barrier coat and probably had ablative paint on top of that, but that’s totally gone. The painter said it was up to me. He said if no barrier coat was on there he normally does 5 coats. If mine is in decent shape, he’d do 2 or 3, then put on the ablative. I Think he uses Interlux ...

Post Carver 3067 1989

The boat has been doing great all summer without issues except for this weekend. I opened up the engine hatches to check everything before I took it out and the bilge had a lot of water in it. I grabbed the boat hook and flipped the float switch up and nothing happened. I went on the bridge and flipped the switch and nothing. I checked the inside bilge and the same thing happened. I flipped the breakers (including the main one) and I checked again, no luck. On a hunch, I checked the bilge blower ...

Post Engine room makeover

Hello all. Thought I'd share some pics of my painting efforts in the engine room. I had poor lighting and faded dirty paint. I feel like I need sunglasses down here now, I love it. Dave.
