Post Looking hard at a 91 Carver 26 Command Bridge

Hi all,

Just finished looking at a boat that isn't seen much in Pacific NW, but appears to fill our needs for a transition boat. Just repowered with a new long block 383, original volvo penta outdrive, appears to be in very nice shape. My admiral and I are 6 years from retirement, and plan to cruise between Bellingham and Alaska and points between in a boat we can't yet afford.

So, for just weekend San Juan Island cruising, or Vancouver Island, we have been on a search for a "transition boa ...

Post Best route & fuel consumption advice,, please

I bought a 1993 Carver 300 Aft-cabin. It feels like the perfect boat for my solo travel. Next May I plan to reposition it from Fulton, MS on the Tenn-Tom where I'm refurbishing it, to Sanford, FL, which will be its hailing port.

Two questions:

1.) Is cruising Florida's Big Bend a good idea, vs. making a direct run from Carrabelle to Inglewood or Port Charlotte? I have a month to make the trip.

2.) If I were to limit my speed to 5-6 mph (hull speed) for most of the trip, could I expect to get 3m ...

Post Seattle area Boat Survey impression

My wife and I are wrapping up purchasing a 2006 Carver 36 MY via Denison Yachts. During our interaction with the brokers we were introduced to Bill Evans to perform our purchase survey.

I wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend Bill again, he's not only thorough, but very responsive. After pointing out a water logged /delaminated swim step in the initial survey, he suggested a technician to handle the work and followed up with post completion survey as well.

His report was comprehensive and deta ...

Post ZF63A port side transmission spins in neutral w/engine running

My Wife and I are in final stages of purchasing a 2006 Carver 36 MY with twin 8.1L and zf63A transmissions, 2.5 gearing.

The idling starboard engine output shaft does not spin in neutral, but the port side does?

Is this issue related to the reverse gearing for port side transmissions to make the port side prop spin opposite direction of the starboard side prop?

Both engines have low hours, but the port side is lower than starboard, 217hrs on port side, and 223 on starboard side? is the higher ...

Post Sideshift bow thruster

Hi folks,

I have seen this topic discussed in other threads but hoping to have a focused discussion on the Sideshift bow thruster specifically.

My previous boat was a 39’ aft cabin with twin diesels, no bow thruster. I found the torque of the diesels allowed me to put the boat anywhere I needed it to go but, on occasion, wished I had a bow thruster during adverse conditions. The boat was a big sail and I’m surrounded by locks. My new to me boat has less area above the waterline but is 47’ LOA. It ...

Post Raw\Fresh cooling system

As some of you know, a mechanic sank my boat in June, still working the courts.

I plan to get another Carver Mariner 350, but they are few and far between on the west side.

I’m considering purchasing from land locks states the middle.

Problem I’m seeing is most are raw-water cooled, which means I would need to add a fresh-water cooling system. So as I’m on the same page…

Raw = pumping external water through engine. Fresh = pumping antifreeze through engine

Any thing I should consider\watch out for ...
