Post Replacing electric stove/oven

Hi Fellas, I want to replace the electric stove/oven on our 36 Carver with a propane stove. My insurance company tells me that it has to be a “marine” stove. As far as I can find out, there’s really no difference between an “RV” stove, and a “marine” stove, except some stainless, and a big difference in price!

Of course I guess that it doesn’t really matter what I think, if the insurance company says that I have to have a marine stove, so I’ll have to spend the big dollar and buy the marine stov ...

Post Loss of RPM’s on both engines at wot

Had the boat out yesterday and put it up on plane for the first time in a while. Could only reach 3000 rpm and 16 mph at wot. Applied tabs to get up on top but missing about 10-12mph.Port and stbd engines running at same rpm. Normal would be 4300ish rpm. Bottom is clean. Props haven’t been touched. Engines are 305 merc’s on a 28’ carver voyager. Marina did plugs, wires, caps and timing end of last summer and boat was running tip top.Thinking it might be a fuel issue as I filled and stabilized la ...

Post 2000 Carver 356 breaker for battery charger.

Hi everyone,

This post is a follow-up to my previous one, but since that got a bit long with multiple topics, I’m starting fresh here.

Due to limited time on the boat over the past two years, I haven’t had a chance to work on some mechanical issues. My latest challenge is related to replacing the battery charger. The original one died, so I purchased a compatible replacement and installed it without any issues. However, I’ve noticed a problem: the house battery only charges when I have the selecto ...

Post 366 bow and stern thrusters

Greetings all! I am new here and trying to wade through the different forums and topics but don’t see what I’m looking for. I am about to take possession of a 2004 366 aft cabin and planned on adding the SideShift 350 bow and stern thrusters after the survey and title transfer is complete but still pulled and blocked. The bow should be strait forward enough assuming there’s access to the bow bilge under the bed or from the anchor locker but the stern has me concerned. I’ve read here how the swi ...

Post 2000 374 voyager water heater tank

I just purchased a used 2000 carver 374 voyager cabin cruiser. The hot water tank is locater on the port side of the port engine {330 cumins}. the hot and cold water line is disconnected and joined together. The two male nipples on front of tank are not attached to anything. I assume these should be connected to the engine so that hot engine coolant will heat the water. Problem is I have no info on why this is done or if there is a problem with the heater. where tank is located it looks impossib ...

Post Bilge blower hose replacement

Hi everyone,

I would like to replace the 4" hoses to the bilge blowers. There are several cracks in the old ones. The upper connection is to a plastic box that exits the side. The exterior is in the attached picture. I can rotate the hose but cannot get it loose. It goes into the box rather than to a fitting on the box. Does anyone know the procedure to replace these? If I cannot get them loose I guess I can cut the hoses and put in junctions, something like the picture attached.

Thanks,
Barry

Post 396 2001 Carver Transom shower

Its no wonder why some very generous boaters started this Forum years ago due to many maintenance items that come up during the ownership of a Carver.

When winterizing my boat for the first time last year I pulled out the transom shower head and expected to turn it on and and flush it with the non toxic antifreeze from my water tank, nothing came out. During my one season of ownership I never used it.

Is there anyway to access the supply lines from behind without having to removing all the caulkin ...

Post Stowing Anchor Rode

On our Santego, we have do not have a windlass. The small port from the anchor locker to the pupit has a spring loaded cover. Stowing the rode is a real pain in the ass. The rode is not heavy or stiff enough to easily drop through the port. Pulling the rode from the anchor locker works for a bit but always gets jammed up as well even with the cover propped open.

What are others doing for manual stowing of the rode?

Post Voyager Cockpit Sidewall Repair

1999 450 Voyager. I want to remove the top part of cockpit sidewall to repaint it. I believe this piece is aluminum. I can’t find where or how it is fastened to the fiberglass sidewall. Can anyone help? There is a strip of no skid down the top that looks like it is siliconed in. Wondering if that piece pops out and screws are underneath. See photo attached.
