Post Kohler 7.3 ECD-CB Generator - '06 41 CMY - Gas

- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
'06 41 CMY Gas Volvo Penta 8.1s with a Kohler 7.3 ECD-CB generator. Last fall when we purchased the boat there was an issue with the generator. During the repair, the technician told me that the raw water from the heat exchanger exits the boat through a hull fitting in the bottom of the boat because there was no water coming from the generator exhaust on the port side of the boat.
This season I am having issues with the generator restarting after it has been running for say an hour or so. Las ...

Post Windless issue

- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
I should have taken pics of the model and the solenoids, but it was late, and hotter than hell up there.
I have power to the helm switch, and power is getting to the windless, but the solenoid switches located near the windless seem to be bad. There is a fusible link that has some corrosion in it (that I will replace), but the fuse is good, I cleaned it off and added some dielectrict grease to it and power seems to be getting past it. The solenoids are located inside a plastic, sealed box with ...

Post Hot Manifolds

- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Risers are good, heat exchanger is good, exhaust manifolds on the port motor only are getting really hot, really fast. Where is the most common place to clog? At the water inlet port? At the joint between the riser and manifold itself? Any tips or tricks to getting it unclogged?
System is a full closed system, never in any salt water. No cracks in the manifolds.
**** Unrelated issue for extra credit... In the fiberglass exhaust T fitting or joint on the port motor, it sounds like there's debr ...

Post Forward shower sump replacement
- Posted by: ronmar » August 6th, 2018, 11:39 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
I have a 93 350 Aft Cabin with a forward shower sump pump that died. I have a replacement but after removing the OEM sump I see that a hole was cut on the side and a nipple was installed for the drain tube which I assume is the A/C condensation line It's smaller than the cut out nipples supplied on the sump so that is why it was added. The nipple assembly is held on with a pressure nut similar to a thru hull fitting. My question is after I cut the hole in new sump what type of sealer recommended ...

Post 326 Aft Cabin Ventilation
- Posted by: steveoh » August 6th, 2018, 11:04 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
We looked at a 1999 326 Aft Cabin today (the first Carver we've looked at) and liked it very much except we were surprised that the side windows in the main salon do not open. It was noticeably warm inside the boat even after having the front hatch, rear sliding glass door, and a couple port holes open for a while. With that said, it was unusually hot for coastal San Diego today and also, I observed that the breeze was blowing straight at the side of the boat which would be that absolute worst ...

Post Air conditioner for 1979 carver mariner
- Posted by: Jrumfola » August 6th, 2018, 6:23 am
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Looking for air conditioning options for our 1979 carver mariner. We recently purchased our first carver and renovating the interior. We purchased a large portable ac 10,000 but but it's still stifling. It is docked in our yard but the coolest it is getting is 80 degrees. Will that change once we are on the water? Wasn't looking to spend a fortune but need something that will make the heat more manageable as two dogs and teenagers will be with us. Suggestions? We live in New York and will ...

Post A/C battery chargers working while 5.7 mercs are running?
- Posted by: Chiefshack » August 6th, 2018, 2:23 am
- Forum: Electrical
I just bought a 1989 3207 Aft Cabin. It has twin 5.7 MIE Mercruisers and a 6.5 Kolan Gen Set. I found out today the battery charger is "hard wired" to the the A/C panel circuit. My question is can the charger be used while the engines are running without damaging the engine batteries, alternators (original) or the charger itself? As is stands right now, if I am on shore power or the genset the charger is on always whether the engines are running or not!!
Thank you in advance,
Chief Shack

Recently acquired a ‘99 404 and am doing some overdue TLC. Have some electrical work and need advise, Can anyone tell me what the 4 switches between the galley and the dining table operate as they are non functional atm? One has a green light to show it is activated.
Also outside in the the back cockpit there is a switch beside the sliding door; what does it operate?
Cheers

Post What species of wood on the interior
- Posted by: chpsk8 » August 5th, 2018, 5:19 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
I'm in the process of buying a 95 355 aft cabin.
In my research I'm noticing that there were two wood options on the interior. I see a dark reddish wood and a blonde wood.
The boat I'm buying has dark wood. I need some advice on what that wood is, and how to refresh it. There are a few scrapes and scuffs and it's showing its age. I'm not into making it super deep gloss furniture style, just a decent gloss and fresh look.
I've searched this site and didn't see much. Any advice is appreciated.

1987 28 ft Voyager. Twin 230 hp gas. 1580 hrs. My port engine burns between 1/2 and 3/4 gal./hr more than stb. engine. Is this excessive or sort of normal?
