Post 1991 2557

I'm still a newbie in this game and still have lots to learn.

I've discovered I've got a leak on the pressure side of my fresh water and if leaving on the power to the pump, my tank will pump dry into my bilge so got to track that down. It could be the water heater tank un in the bow but will look into further when the weather warms up. I did find, please look at pictures, under the cover in the aft cabin this conglomeration of vales and pumps. Anyone know wth these are?

Thanks so much for any inf ...

Post Want to purchase a Voyager

Hello, I am new to forum. I am currently looking at a few Voyagers (45, 53 and 56). I know nothing about Volvo diesels, and some of the Carvers we are looking at have Volvos. I have a lot to learn about Carvers, but I like what I have seen so far. Seem like well built boats that we can liveaboard for months at a time. Any advice on what i should beware of, any issues with certain Volvos and Cummins, would be appreciated! Look forward to learning a lot and becoming a knowledgeable contr ...

Post Using aft reserve tank?

Hi Guys!

Question for you: I have a 1995 Carver 390 powered by Crusaders. This boat, like others in its size class, has a 125-gallon reserve fuel tank in the back, as well as the two 100-gallon tanks on the side. I don't know if this tank has ever been used, and I would like to use it next time I'm cruising in Canada, so I can take across the border as much of the cheaper American gas as I can hold.

The thing is, I'm a little reluctant because since the tank hasn't been used in a long time (if eve ...

Post GPS Anchor Drag Alarm

Hi folks, I would like to tap into your expertise regarding an anchor alarm.

I am getting a new Chartplotter this season and am interested in using the 'anchor drag alarm' feature.

The Garmin instructions state that when enabling the alarm: "...Select Set Radius, and select a distance on the chart."

Can anyone let me know what 'formula' you use? For instance, if I am in 10 ft or water and have let out 40 ft of chain (about 3.5:1), do I set for a 40 ft radius? Do I allow for a 360 degree spin, w ...

Post 3207 Swim platform- Dimensions and supports

Hi All,

I inherited my parent's 85 aft cabin when they went bigger last fall. As winter is stating to finally draw to an end in Wisconsin and the snowmobiles are put away I've started to shift my eyes to the boat and what my first projects are going to be.

I'm thinking the first task is to expand the swim platform... I did it on my old boat (277 Regal) and loved the extra room while we were out on the hook. Problem is the boat is over an hour away and I wanted to start some pre-work on it without ...

Post Owning slip vs renting

Hi guys wondering if any of you own the slip for your boat? We currently rent our slip and have since 2011. Our marina is making a switch into a “Yacht Club” and made the slips available for purchase starting this year. Our current slip is 52’ X16’ and they want $58,000 for it plus $950 a year association fees. Any assessments above and beyond the association fee would be up to the slip holders to pay, (which scares me a bit). I also don’t know what banks would even finance a piece of dock. The ...

Post Spark Plug Wires ???

I need a tie breaker.

The issue...

I have a 1999 Carver Mariner 350 with Mercruser Gas engines (300 hours in fresh water). Last summer the engines would not rev very high. It started great and idled great. The problem turned out to be old and crusty spark plugs and distributor. After gaping 16 new plugs and fighting in the tight spaces around the engine and fuel tank, I was able to replace them. The boat runs great now. My car mechanic said not to replace the wires. Reason - the new stuff is crap ...
