Post Rudder Stuffing Box - 350 Mariner

All,

The port rudder stuffing box started to leak this summer. I did tighten but only reduced but did not stop the leaking. Now in storage for the winter, I unscrewed the female end, pulled it up as far as possible and had difficulty seeing any signs of the stuffing. I did manage to get a pic (not great) and is attached. The white material appears to be what is left of the stuffing.

I plan to clean out whatever is in the housing and re-stuff. The Owners Manual indicates three rings of impregna ...

Post 89 Carver 3607 Portlight Replacement (all)

My wife and I are Carver fanatics, this being our second one and we love her. One of our projects for next summer is replacement of the 10 original port lights, several of which are leaking badly. My questions is this: Is there anyone out there that has done this and kept the hull cutout size for the port lights? This would sure prove useful. I'm ordering the port lights from Bomar Pompanette and believe they may have manufactured the original ones used by Carver.

Post Exhaust Risers Crusader 454 XLi

Eyeballing the exhaust risers on my Carver 405 for replacement. All runs well, however I noticed a little corrosion along the gasket seem to the manifold. I do all my own work and was looking for suggestions of the various factory replacements available, Crusader, BARR, Sierra etc.... If anyone has favorable reviews of replacements I would like to know. Obviously cost is a consideration as I have seen $50/$75 difference between vendors per unit.

Post 356 swim deck extension

Looking at 'stock' 1999 356 stern, seems the swim deck is narrow especially with deck box.

One of the main reasons I've favored a 404 over a 356 is that the cockpit makes boarding so much easier, especially when a tender is on the swim deck.

Rough estimate to 'add' an extension to the swim to leave the boat's swim deck clear and have the tender on the extended platform?

Thanks in advance.

Post drain plug on santego 34

hello all,

I need some help, new to the santego, drain plug was the home depot rubber stopper type that expanded when tightened screw. That scares the hell out of me, and there are two drain holes!!!!

the threaded insert is about one inch pipe thread but the bushing I bought won't thread.

any ideas of what I need to do before filing in with fiberglass and starting new

thanks

Post Carver 466 Model

We are going to look at a 2005 and a 2006 located close to Fort Myers, FL that we want to use for a week-end boat and also to cruise the Caribbean Islands by island hopping. Is this a good boat for the purpose we want to use it for?

Post Hello from Florida

We are currently looking for a new boat and have found 2 466s for sale around Fort Myers, FL. I like the 466 because a friend in San Diego has one and I love that yacht.

Our boating background is a Starcraft 42 foot houseboat, a 42 foot Jeanneau Sun Odessey, a 45 foot Columbia motorsailor, and a 48 foot Chris Craft Roamer. We can not do the sailing anymore, we do not want a project boat.

We would like a boat that will do for week-ends and cruising the islands in the Caribbean. We are wondering ...

Post Survey result - question Cummins 370 Turbo Charger

Had a survey and sea trial on a 2000 Carver 404 with twin Cummins 370s.

Boat is in really good shape cosmetically, mechanically and electrically wte of a lot of blistering below the water line (time and $ consuming, but nothing that points to a disaster).

The only real problem noted in the survey that I'm concerned about is the turbo chargers on both engines. Both showed excessive rust and corrosion during the pre-underway survey, and during sea trials we couldn't bring the engines above 1800 RP ...
