Post Fresh Water Tank clean up?

I want to use my ice maker, but also am leery of the condition of the fresh water tank. I took off the inspection plate and yep! there are cruddy deposits of sand and goo on parts of the bottom. No real way to get inside and scrape and clean up. I was thinking, what if I enlarged the inspection plate to say 10" wide by 20" long? Then when I was done cleaning up the inside, I made a gasket from rubber, and got a plate of aluminum 1" larger than the hole and screwed it down with a LOT of self tapp ...

Post Solar System

I am in the process of adding a 30 watt solar system on my boat. I intend to connect the output from the system to the house batteries. Should I disconnect the battery charger from the batteries, or just turn the charger off? Does it make any difference?
Thanks for any advice

Post Carver Mariner 350 Cockpit Seating

I'm looking at the carver mariner 350. I've noticed that mariners made after 2002 have a folding bench seat that covers the access hatch in the floor. Previous years have a folding table that covers the access hatch. I like the idea of more seating around the helm. If I end up with an older model, is there a way to replace the older folding table with the newer bench seat.

Post 48" floresent bulbs on 1987 3807 Carver

I believe the 48" florescent bulb fixtures behind the valences on 1987 3807 Carver are 12 volts? What are the florescent bulbs? 12 volt DC or 120 volt AC and the fixture converts?

Post Raw water intake

I have a new to me 1987 Santego 27ft. that has 2 intakes I don't know where they go. One is about in the middle of the boat and one is in the engine compartment that hooks to a pump but don't know for what.

Also I have one engine down right now and it has the power steering pump on it so I have zero steering. Wheel just spins. Reading this forum I see hynautic steering talked about but I don't know if thats what I have since I have a ps pump on the engine.

Any ideas would be great. I can't get to ...

Post Upgraded my bimini to to a hard top

What a difference hooray no more canvas on the aft portion. My new hardtop from Hard To Top was custom made for my 1988 model 3207. The cost is comparable to canvas but the big plus is that it is guaranteed for 10 years and will last 4-5 times longer than canvas. I installed it along with the help of my friend and completed it in about 6 hours.

The top consists of 8 mm polycarbonate and anodized aluminum (picture attached). I was able to attach it to my existing bimini frame and still use my side ...
