Strange unidentified Simrad navigation symbols

Postby DTYRGUY » March 29th, 2025, 9:16 am

Does anybody on here know what these red symbols at the top of this screen shot of my Simrad are? Have searched online and in the manual but can't find an answer.

No. Good guess though. They kind of look like that. BTW, this is on the back side of Estero Island.

Here's the same area as shown in Navionics. They are labeled as "Obstructions" and the details indicate an underwater obstruction.

Maybe the symbol Simrad is using is depicting a wave/water (the wavy part on top) and then the part below the wavy part represents the underwater obstruction sticking up. That would make sense and correlate to the Navionics description.

Aha the plot thickens so they say... :-D

I checked the official nav symbols manual before and the closest I could find that looked like the Simrad icon was a palm tree or any tree on land...saw the windmill icon but that doesn't apply to this area. Could be the tree/sunken land thing because of tides etc. Really imo, the symbol/ icon used should be an easily recognized symbol for nav to avoid confusion. I do like the one shown on the Navionics better as it relates to the area in question much better from what I can see with all the floating islands with vegetation etc that seem to be there.

I have never been there but sat shots show that kind of channeling and maybe hazards still left from the last hurricane. Hopefully someone chimes in that has been down that channel and can say what they observed there.

To add....there is something on the road waze app I have that allows people to add hazards etc to warn people, could this be a function like that ?
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....
