Dual Zone HVAC problems

HI

I have a Carver 33e aft cabin (1992) - the master state room cooling works fine, both water pumps also are working, but the salon system isn't cooling - and thoughts/recommendations (HVAC guy wants to do complete replacement - seems ridiculous to me?

I had the same boat for many years. Is he talking about just replacing the salon unit or the entire system? If original, that’s a good long life. Again, if all original, I’d say at least the Solon unit and the water pump. But maybe since he’s already out there, maybe the extra $1800-2k for the aft unit too and no worries for many years?

Just to clarify, you say each ac unit has its own water pump? That’s unusual as usually, one pump services several ac units. My current 356 has one pump for 2 units and some years ago, I had a 3807 with 3 units and only one pump.
Exactly what did your ac guy say as to his thoughts of replacing the unit? At 33 years old, the unit could easily be shot and just not repairable, at least not for a reasonable amount of cash. And does he want to replace both units or just the one no longer working?

yes, sorry its one water pump....the master state room does cool, but the salon/forward doesnt - and yes, he wants to replace the whole thing. Personally I dont understand why one room can cool and the other cant if it is the same system!

You have two separate condensing/compressor units (one forward under the galley seats if I remember, and one aft under the bed?) but they are both fed water from the same pump. Everyone’s budget and needs are different but I would say do the whole system if you can. These units seem to last about 20 ish years and are either not repairable or just not worth it. New units from Webasto or Marinaire seem to be more efficient and quieter as well. Just my .02 but in boat bucks is always $thousands! lol.

Yes, your 33 is very similar to my 356. Aft unit underneath the bed and forward unit underneath the forward galley seat. At least, that is my setup. 2 completely separate units, but they do share a common water pump.
