Pump out on a 1990 boat. I heard that a 1990 and older boat has different threads on hose fitting . How do I fix this problem ?

Most pump out stations have an assortment of adapters. That being said, I would say the majority of boats are older than 1990 and have never heard anyone complain about this or have any difficulties at pump out stations. Why do you say it's a problem?

I’ve never screwed in any kind of fitting, although most pump out stations will have different adapters available. When I pump out, the hose has a rubber fitting cap you just hold against the pump out outlet. I think that is what most people use. I guess I could use a screw in adapter but this is just so much easier.

In my experience, the standard adapter thread is as found in the usual Perko deck fitting.

HOWEVER....these Perko's are made from Zamac alloy and can corrode off at the hose barb, making pumpout impossible until replaced. The failure can't be seen from the deck.

Don't ask me how I know!! GRRRRRR! Perkos!

The pump-out stations use what is called a cam lock. They have different adapters that clamp on to the hose to suit your boat, as mentioned, there is also a universal rubber funnel type that will do them all but one needs to hold it in place whereas the screw on style can just be left to pump on it's own.

I keep one of these on board in case they lose theirs. Made of polypropylene so it does not rust or scratch things up. They are only a few dollars. https://www.princessauto.com/en/poly-ma ... Id=8154361

Really shouldn't be an issue.....there is one thing that could affect this, if a previous owner changed the fitting to something not correct for the waste.

Maybe you are talking about thread diameter. The go to at most pump outs is 1 1/2" MIP. I had a 1988 Carver that had a 1 1/4" deck fitting. Most pump out stations, didn't have it or didn't want to take the time to look for it.
I bought my own cam lock x 1 1/4" and kept it on the boat.
