Head maintenance

Post by wbriese76 »

The head seems to be original. Looks like 1985 with a full handle pump. I am having problems with the water going down slowly but pumping pulls water in just fine. I can't seem to locate a valve to make the hand lever pump switch to push the water into the tank. What's the deal? Is it blocked or am I blind?

Welcome aboard!
I'm guessing you have a blockage. You mght just go ahead and rebuild it while you take it apart.
Our first boat had a manual pump and I converted it to electric. But that was 40 years ago.
Thanks

Welcome aboard. Posting the make and model, or a picture of the unit would help.

Yea, definitely post up some model info or pics.

Some have a valve that will allow you to pump water in while pumping out, but then stop water pumping in while you pump it out. On some they have a "joker" valve or flapper on the output to the tank that may be damaged which will cause the pump-out to be slower than normal.

Something else to verify is your 28 mariner most likely has a very small waste tank, only good for 10 - 20 flushes. I may be full.
