Here's a start need to chevk the 12v ign terminal 9v is low as you probably know .American senders are about 230 ohms at low and 30 ohms at high (full).

If you disconnect the wire from the sender to the gauge (it may be pink) the gauge should read empty. If you now take the wire from the gauge and ground it, the gauge should read full. If nothing happens or the readings are intermittent, you need to find where that wire connects at the gauge and do the same tests, no connection to the gauge and grounded. If the gauge doesn't react properly it is bad OR the battery connection is bad/intermittent. To check that you need to measure the voltage to the meter and wiggle things (connections) to see if it fluctuates.

will try when I get to boat. I know 9 volt is low but cannot guess where I am getting voltage loss, activated switch for gauge only 9 volts on meter at sending unit

I agree with the above, but it might be the sending units themselves. It's not hard to change them, I recently changed one in my 405, took about 30 minutes beginning to end. However be careful, you're fooling with an open tank and gasoline.

Not sure if it will help. Last season one of my gauges quit working. The one for the starboard tank. I have an aft-cabin so access to the tank is relatively easy. I lifted out the mattress and removed the platform the mattress sets on. I removed the wires from the tank and I wire brushed the connection on the tank and the wire connectors themselves. When I reconnected the wires the gauge worked again.

It could be something as simple as a connection that needs to be cleaned. If luck is on your side that would be what is wrong. Good luck, hope you figure it out.

In my case it was the sending unit....please post when you figure it out.....

Thanks,
