Electrical
Has anyone with a carver 506 installed led lights in the risers of the aft boarding steps. I did this in my last boat but cannot figure out how to get to back side of steps to install wiring. Any help would be appreciated.

The aft closet closest to the port hull side is cedar lined. If you look closely, you will see small scews all the way around the perimeter of it. Unscrew those and you will have access to the empty stair case. It will house the cablemaster system and all of your shore power connections. I wired mine from here and installed a waterproof switch inside the hatch where the shorewater connections are.
FYI, I bought my lights for $50 at Home Depot. They are brushed stainless flush mounted landscape deck lights they even come with the drill bit to cut the hole. Besides my underwater lights, best investment I have made. And the cheapest!

Thanks for the feed back. I'll check it out. I like the idea of the exterior switch. Although I may try and two way the switching with one close to the rear aft deck door.

I have played around with "stair lights" for several years now in various applications. Many of them do not last more than a year however this is in 8 hrs/day every day application although this would be a non issue on the boat. The biggest issue I have had is the lights are rather blinding especially in cool white. The best and latest installation I have are these lights in the link. They are warm white and pleasing to the eye. The half shell design solves the brightness issue as it no longer is a spotlight into the eyes.
