Fuel gauge issue

Postby Capn Crunch » May 25th, 2019, 1:32 am

Hi all, after a hiatus from here back for more education. I did a query but found nothing similar, forgive me if I missed it.

Having issue with fuel gauge pegging empty and not registering any fuel in the tank. Any suggestions on where to start diagnostics? I'm wondering if maybe gauge itself went... Sending unit maybe?

Some extra background... Had a shop install Garmin plotter/fishfinder and coincidence has it electric problems ensued.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Thanks,
Mark

Perhaps the garmin installer knocked a wire off of the fuel gauge?

Thanks for the reply... I think it possible but couldn't find any loose wires, all seem connected.

Really just looking for hints on how you would go about diagnosing... As I'm a total ignoramus in electronics on a vehicle. If I check for 12V across the sending unit am I risking fire @ the fuel tank? Is there a voltage drop normal at any point in that curcuit?

Totally lost on a starting point to get it back up to snuff, lol.
