failure to launch.

Could not start engines (Cat 3126s) today. Seems like it's electrical but don't know. Checked voltmeter before attempting to start. Batt 1 was at 11.9 and Batt 2 was bouncing around 14. When I turned key, the buzzer went all hinky, the indicator light for the windlass dimmed and engine did not turn over. Tried other engine - same result.

Switched to Batt 2. Same symptoms, same result. Switched to both. Same/same result.
I do not understand why motors would not start off Batt 2.

Odd that Batt 1 was at 11.9 since charger is functioning.

This whole thing is odd.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

Really sounds like just bad batteries IMHO.

Loose battery connections, bad grounds, corroded electrical lines and/or ground cables!

All the above! Check your connections at the batteries and engines, and have your batteries tested properly. Those Cats should fire up right away.

Everybody is correct. Turns out there are breakers marked " one, gen and two" for the battery charger system. Breaker for "one" was popped. At that point, we knew there was a short but had no idea where. Reset breaker and battery charger did its thing. Batteries were fine next morning. Checked some connections and all appeared OK. Made mental note to put connections on list.

July 17th: Failure Part Two: this time Battery 2 was virtually dead, Battery 1 was at 12. Got engines started and then checked the breaker. Popped. Made mental note to check list.
