Marine Pricing Rant

So my masthead light plastic lens is starting to yellow some and I tried finding a replacement. Could not find one however I was shocked at the price of a new masthead light assembly by Perko which is the one I have.

Found one very similar and actually has the same mounting hole pattern dimensions so installation is very easy. The Five Oceans unit is about 1/8" wider and 1/2" taller but otherwise looks pretty much the same. Price difference is surprising to say the least.

I guess my point is an entirely new unit from 5 Oceans would be much cheaper than a lens from Perko which I cannot even find.

Bottom line is I will try to polish up the lens as I do like the fact that mine takes a festoon style bulb which is replaceable by a LED variant compared to the newer built in LED versions from both manufacturers which are not repairable if the light gives up.

Do you have a Perko number for the replacement lens?

No, not even printed on the light fixture or the lens. Had both in my hand yesterday. Even my bill of materials from Carver does not list a part number except Carvers internal numbers which are basically useless now that Carver is gone.

The Perko link I posted is the new LED version, cannot find the older incandescent style which may be slightly different.

That's insane pricing.

If the old one is still in great shape other than the yellowing, you could probably get a molding kit and cast your own for much cheaper and you could probably make a couple spares.

It looks like there is a lens available but everywhere I've checked is a special order and in my experience, ETAs and special order fees make it easier to just purchase a whole new fixture. You can try contacting Perko directly though, they might help you out. In their catalogue, it states that you replace the last three characters of the fixture's part number to get the lens part number for that fixture. The incandescent fixtures are still available though for about $70 CND. I just checked on Western's website, a Canadian distributor, and they still have them. It looks like Perko's number is 0170BM0DP1 or 170-BM0-DP1.

Here's a place in the US but they are available here as well:

That has to be a misprint on the first link. That just can't be accurate. 8-) er

With the part number Viper posted I see it is available on Amazon however temporarily out of stock. The entire LED fixture is 47$ CAD. https://www.amazon.ca/Perko-0170BM0DP1-12-Volt-Masthead-Light/dp/B00H93DJ90

Just to clarify, the LED version IS a few hundred bucks. Any Canadian dealer can get the incandescent model from Western right now but it'll be around $70 retail.
