Kahlenberg Zero Series Horn Install

Postby Midnightsun » September 1st, 2020, 6:53 am

So my electric el cheapo horns died, they never did sound very loud to begin with. Went to buy new ones and then did something crazy. :beergood: Instead of buying cheap poor sounding run of the mill electric horns for a couple hundred, I went with the creme de la creme which is Kahlenberg. https://www.kahlenberg.com/products/mar ... horns.html

This involves installing a mini compressor with tank, air hose, a switch and an air valve. Not complicated at all but my estimate is about $1600 when all is said and done. I tested the horns on the bench, holy $hit is all I can say. Nobody can miss me when I toot guaranteed. :-D

I added this switch to the dash so the compressor can be turned on or off.

This will give you an idea of overall size, tank is about 18" long

Believe me I have had the no tank style compressor air horns on another boat, no comparison whatsoever. Tankless air horns are not that expensive. https://www.globalindustrial.ca/p/vehic ... gJDY_D_BwE

I have the same setup, you'll be happy with them. Mine are chrome, it's a bit of upkeep but they look awesome shined up.

Put another actuated valve under the tank drain (like you''re using to open air to horns) and install a switch somewhere so you can bleed water/drain the tank without having to get to the drain plug if you're putting it somewhere it's hard to access. I put mine in the bridge with the rest of electronics and it's hard to get in so that's worked great. I ran a piece of hose off the valve to a place where the water will drain nicely if any in there.

You'll find at 150psi they're very loud, a bit much. I run mine at 100 psi and think they sound better and a few less decibels.

Great idea, never thought of that. Thanks, you get a sticky star. :-D

I got a tall and skinny friend lined up as I am also installing it in the bridge.

The installation will go better if your tall and skinny friend is of the opposite sex.
