Iron in water will embed in stainless. A simple wipe down with dilute acid will clean it up.
Just about any rust stain can be removed with dilute acid and some energetic scrubbing, so long as the substrate is impervious to acid.
We had rust stains on our boat once from somebody doing grinding in the boat yard. A little bit of muriatic diluted took it away.
