So glad I found this group. Just closing on 1997 Carver 405. Survey went very well with no major issues. One engine smoking a bit, some say possibly injectors need a cleaning. I would like to start upgrades immediatly by replacing carpet. I am in the Chattanooga area and looking for any suggestions, good or bad experience.

My wife and I have owned many boats over the years. This is our first Carver. No plans for loop or coast cruising. Mostly likely just lake and moderate river trips, so I hope the 454s will do the trick. Im sure at some point I will wish I had Diesel.

Hey and welcome fellow 405 owner. I'm in soddy daisy at pine harbor. Will be looking for you on the lake. I love our 405 I think you will too.

Looks like your picture is at nickajack with the old power plant in the background. I won't start the diesel vs gas debate. I know diesels definitely have a place but cruising around in the lake where we are i really dont think it would benefit much. I've had my gas 405 w/same engines for going on 9 yrs, or so run around 60-80 hrs a year. In my case really haven't seen a need for diesels and I'm at least used to working on gas engines so thats a benefit to me. In my opinion and boating the same area just further north of you the 454s move the boat fine. I've been down your way some and with the narrow areas of the river and homes with docks along the way you'll end up doing a lot of trips at hull speed or so.

Welcome, I’m fairly new here too. Good luck with your new toy. I’m at Chickamauga Marina. See you on the river.

Welcome Aboard. The 454's will run the boat nicely. 40' is kind of the dividing line between gas or diesels. A good friend of mine had a 40' Silverton and the 454's moved their boat nicely.

Welcome aboard. The pic illustrates some foggy condition of your Strataglass windows. Get some of the Imar Strataglass cleaner and clean frequently. I had a similar problem. Previous owner used Plexus plastic cleaner. That is a very good cleaning product for Isenglass, but contributed to foggy haze on mine. The Imar product worked to clear up some of that hazy look. Not perfect, but much better. For flooring, you may want to consider Infinity Luxury Woven vinyl. Great product, very easy to clean and keep clean. Check out the demo video on the bottom of this link. Works as illustrated. Easy to cut.

Gas engines will be fine. The 454's are thirsty, but keep the RPM's on the lower end. You did not buy it for speed anyway. 8-) er
