Drain plug

Post by iswartz »

Hey guys, just picked up my 89 montego 2557 and can’t seem to find the drain plug on the outside of the boat, can anyone tell me where it’s located? Maybe the inside near the transom?

I'm guessing you access from topsides. At the back of the boat, from the bilge, plug on the bottom of the hull.
Thanks

For that vintage, you're probably looking inside the bilge for a 4-6" tall "T" handle. I just can't remember if you're looking aft or further forward on that model Montego, could be anywhere. It's a different model but mine for example is amidships.

Agree with looking for the "T" handle. I'd just start at the stern within 1' of the centerline, and follow that forward looking for any thru-hull. Then look inside wherever you find one to see what it is. On my 3607 it was about 12" from the stern and you had to look under the aft berth to find the "T" handle. It was no where near the lowest spot in the bilge and after the first couple years I stopped pulling it for storage as it really didn't do anything. There would have been at least 8" of water in the engine room before anything made it back to the drain plug.
