Anchor Rope

Postby swodog6289 » August 11th, 2014, 8:25 am

Need to replace the worn out anchor rope. Looks like 3/4 inch rope to me, any suggestions? I don't want to skimp here so no low quality recommendations just those that meet the need and any additional recommendations are fine.

Would love to go back to a chain windlass system but not this year.

The primary factor is your windlass. What type/size rode is it setup for. Beyond that I believe three strand nylon with ~15' of chain is standard.

Let's make sure my terms are straight. The winch pulls a 3/4 inch rope and it goes into a space forward of the forward stateroom.

When I opened it up, it looks like it collects in that locker.

So reading your reply, a 3/4 inch nylon rope should work then?

Yup. If what you have now works and is just worn or frayed then replace with same. My understanding on the windlass is the rode size/type needs to match the spools. Not sure how to tell what you have, maybe someone more in the know will chime in.

If you can, ALWAYS better to go chain/rope or all chain. Especially in your boat and you do any overnighting. Check your windlass to see if it will accept it, it's literally night and day.
