Good thing you had time to come up with that reality scenario. I have been thinking about down sizing, or just changing the boating life into the geographical exploring life. Instead of paying all the slip fees, maintenance expense, storage expense, etc., I would just rent apartments in different parts of the country. Then, to satisfy my boating desire, rent a boat here and there. Rentals are really reasonable when you consider all that true expense. You have given me more food for thought. Enjoy the new boat! New world of having no condition anxiety. And, the portability is a bonus! My thoughts focus on selling the Mariner, and finding a mid size center console to zip around in. Is it weird I just can't get comfy with this idea? 8-) er

Lots of GREAT lakes here other than the Great Lakes!!

May get a chance to do the Inland Waterway again. First did it in 1997 in my 28' Bayliner and again last summer in my son's 20' Pontoon Boat.

I have actually been thinking about downsizing for a couple of years now. With the sellers of the 2767 sitting on my offer all winter it gave me time to think about what I wanted to do. Factoring in all the costs of keeping a bigger boat at a marina I knew that storing a smaller trailerable boat would cost a lot less. My summer dockage was $1750. Winter storage $900. Shrinkwrap $450. Winterizing the boat about another $400 all these costs annually. Insurance was another $550 for the Carver. The new boat is $150 annually. I will use a lot less fuel. I shouldn't have any things on the new boat for some time that will need fixing. I am losing the ability to overnight aboard but then again I only spent one night aboard the Carver last season.

Who knows. I may win a large enough sum of $$ in the lottery to get back into a bigger cruising boat. One can always dream.

Just for the heck of it I checked and the Santego is still for sale. The sellers dropped the price $2000 to $16900. I offered $17000. Wondering if they now regret not taking my offer. The boat would have been sold pending sea trial and survey but they did not want to tie up the boat over the winter.

That boat will sell it is a really nice boat as long as the survey and sea trials are successful. Bummer on their part. It will be interesting to see if the current high fuel prices slow down the boating market both new and used.

With the current rise in fuel costs might take a bit longer to sell now. They may be dropping the price of the boat again.

I am sure they are regretting their decision. Hindsight is 20/20. But, you ended up in the right place for you. ( Think I just heard you chuckle a little ) Anyone buying a boat right now is thinking they are going to get a better price now, or reconsidering a purchase altogether. 8-) er

I would not be surprised if they are regretting not accepting my offer. I really do not understand their reasoning of not wanting to tie up the boat over the winter with an offer pending spring survey and sea trial. It was early November when I went to look at the boat. It was winterized and ready to go into winter storage. Not much more could have been done at that time.

Their decision gave me time to reconsider my thoughts. I then came to the conclusion that for me it was time to downsize and cut expenses with a smaller boat. Their loss. Like I said it is a really nice looking apparently well cared for boat and had it passed survey and sea trial I would have liked that boat a lot.

That is now water under the bridge as I look forward to my new boat this season.

I am surprised they didn't accept that offer too. I would think any potential buyers would have had the same conditions as you and probably would not have offered much more, as that was a pretty reasonable offer. It would be a HUGE risk to buy a boat in storage without a sea trial or survey. I have heard of boats selling without surveys and real "sea trials", but at least the boat was in the water and they got a "check ride" before handing over payment!!
