Who knows. While surfing various websites of boats for sale I found this one.

I think I may want to go take a look at it. Some friends of mine had a 27 Santego some years ago and I was impressed by the room aboard. I know its still twins but this boat should be more economical to run than my 3007 was.

What does the braintrust here think. Should I go look at it. I did request some more information from the brokerage. So, we'll see what happens.

Absolutely check it out, but I will say I’m biased when it comes to a Santego as I own one myself and it’s the second one I’ve owned. They do have quite a bit of room for their size due to their open concept. the admiral and I love them because the inside is all on one level, no up and down stairs.

The climb to the bridge on that is nice... more like steps than a ladder. Nice big entry to the cabin too.

Didn't you have V8's in your old boat? If so then I think this would be more economical, as it has V6's and probably displaces a lot less.

I wonder if the owner is a member here. I recall someone asking for info on the helm switches, as the labels were all washed out. Probably happens on most of these boats but is easily resolved.

Why not take a look, unless it's got thousands of hours on it. Santego's have great floor plans, you would be back to a condo on the water. The Alpha One's are cheap to replace total unit. May be slightly under powered, but a fun home away from home. er

Actually that boat with the 4.3 gms should cruise 28mph and top out over 34. Its a wide, fairly light hull and will cruise nicely.
Make sure you check the stringers, they are encapsulated wood.
Weak point is the motor mount area.

Waiting to hear back from the broker if it is still on the market. The friends of mine that had a Santego had twin 4 cylinder engines. It performed very well. I would think the twin 4.3's would do as well if not better. If it is under 1000 hours I will give it strong consideration. Over a thousand I will have to think on it.

It should be more economical. The twin 4.3's vs the twin 5.7's plus the fact it is an I/O vs inboard drive system should make it less expensive to operate.

It looks exactly like our Santego, only 2 years younger. . Same engines as well.

It looks very clean too, hopefully it will check all the spec marks.

It will run well if the 4.3's are in good shape. They are pretty bullet proof.
The earlier ones (like this) don't have a balance shaft, so they may shake a bit especially at idle. Don't let that scare you.
As far as efficiency, don't expect it to be a big savings on fuel compared to your 3007. It will be better, but not by a bunch.

From what I have read the 5.7 Crusaders in my 3007 are somewhat considered gas hogs. Over time in my 3007 my average fuel usage range came out as .86 MPG. I never calculated a gallons per hour in that boat. The Mercruiser 4.3's should see a drop in fuel usage at comparable RPM settings. I had a 4.3 LX in a previous boat and it sipped fuel when compared to a 5.7. If I end up with this Santego better will be better even if not by a lot.

The boat is still available so I plan to call and make an appointment to see it next Saturday if it is not already covered for the winter. The Santego based on the pics and the advertisement do seem to meet most of my wants and needs.
