Florida Keys

Postby Cooler » October 24th, 2020, 11:30 am

2 weeks since CBTL was put on the hard. Starting to think about next season, but it is so far off! So, thinking about taking a Keys vacation in early January. Arrive in Miami, rent a convertible, and drive the Keys. Probably stay in Key Largo as a home base, and drive to different sites. Questions for any Keys Carver owners:
1. What is the COVID situation down there? 2. Any suggestions or thoughts on must see, or must experience opportunities? 3. Any particular marinas I should visit to get my mid-winter marina fix? Thanks! It is always better to get input from the locals. 8-) er

Wow. No response from any locals. Just looked at Covid stats for Florida, and it looks really bad statewide. Not sure if the Keys are consistent with the state, but worrisome none the less. Maybe I should wait till March or later? 8-) er

I don't live in the keys but have been several times. If you go theres some good scuba diving in Pennekamp Park in key largo and lots of other places along the chain down to key west if you are a diver even some snorkeling in some areas is also good. You could rent a boat and get out on the water too. Lot of neat places to see that a boat brings. If making the trip I would set aside time in key west if you've never been much more to do there. Oh yeah on Islamorada at robbies marina you gotta go and hand feed the tarpon its a blast. Ill be venturing to Florida again in a couple days will be in treasure island for 14 days so I'll also see about covid there.

Florida COVID dashboard ... just look at Monroe County, or narrow down further to the cities/zip codes you're interested in. NOTE - this is the site started and run by a group headed by the woman who ran the State's dashboard until she was 'forced out' because she wanted to show a 'true' accounting, not a politically filtered one.

I have a friend that stays in Key Largo every winter. He advised me that during the first wave they shut the road off, so unless you were a resident you could not go south. As you know, only one road in and out. At that time they had no cases and they wanted to keep it that way. Not sure about now, but some thing Would check into.
