2000 326 aft cabin water tank question

Postby Ssmullugan » November 12th, 2017, 8:34 pm

We are new to the Carver 326...and the dual water tanks. Fill is on Starboard side and waste on port side.... but there are 2 freshwater holding tanks. One on starboard side one on port side (under the beds in the aft cabin). It seems that only the starboard tank is filling when we add water. The fill guage has never read past half full and we even seem to be listing to the starboard side. Im assuming tanks are connected becayse all faucets and shower are working. Am i missing a connector to fill the port sude tank? Thanks for any help....

If you only have one fresh water deck fitting to fill the tanks, then they will be connected. Depending on the build and the proximity of one tank to the other, it'll either have a hose connecting one tank to the other close to the bottom of the tanks or the fill hose will have a tee that will branch off to the two tanks. The two tank outlets will be connected together then lead to the pump/pumps. Either way, this will keep both tanks at the same level no matter which one gets filled more initially. During the initial fill, one tank is likely to fill faster than the other but if you give it a little time, they should even out and then you should be able to add more water. Eventually both tanks will top off.

If you are only getting a half tank reading, you're either not allowing time for both tank levels to equalize during filling or you have a faulty sender or gauge or wiring.

Assuming the two tanks are connected, there is the possibility that there is a shut off valve somewhere in the connection.
Get a good flashlight and dive into the bilge. Spend some time there and you will be surprised at all the things you will find.

On my current boat, not a Carver, I have 2 water tanks each with its own deck fill. They are still connected to each other with shut off valves. If I go slow enough, I can fill both tanks from one deck fitting.

If you look at bud37's post the schematic clearly shows a tee in line with the water fill hose. Maybe want to eyeball that to make sure it wasn't over looked at production
