Location of Holding Tank - 1980 Santa Cruz 26

Postby rustyboltz » January 25th, 2014, 8:50 pm

I'm considering buying my first Carver, and the owner has only briefly had his boat and is very unfamiliar with it, having used it twice in the last 2 years, but never had it pumped out despite using the head a few times and the sink often. It's a 1980 Santa Cruz 26, and he doesn't know if it has a holding tank and if so, where it's located. I only briefly looked at it during a blizzard, so I couldn't tell where it is located. Is it possible that in 1980 Carver didn't install one at the factory?

If it has a holding tank, there should be a hose connection point topsides somehwere. I am guessing back then, it may have been an option.

And something to seriously consider that may save you big bucks on this 34 year old boat - pay for a survey. I believe early 80 Carver hulls were 100% cored. The last thing you need is a wet core.
Thanks

Probably too late to be useful, but for what it's worth.....

My 78 Santa Cruz 2866 has no holding tank per se.
The 2 sinks (galley and head) and shower drain grey water directly out thru-hulls.

The Mansfield head is a self-contained unit with its own holding tank as it's base. This has a pump out (originally a T-valve to a macerator for overboard discharge option, since removed).
