After my last post I called the state again to reassure myself of what I was told earlier regarding the HIN. The new person (LIsa, she deserves big kudo's if not a raise at the very least!!) checked HIN of potential new to me vessel, my current vessel HIN... put me on hold a few times while researching - all the while confirming what I was told earlier, that indeed no lien, no salvage, not a "homemade" vessel etc - and finally found a reference to a new federal guideline. Short version is they strongly recommended any HIN that had/has the letter i in it be changed... specifically to avoid the very issue that prompted my call in the first place lol. So Washington state changed that into a mandate... a little over 16,000 vessels in the state were affected... including one such 310 Santego that I'm looking at.

That sounds like a logical reason for the change. Good luck with the sea trial and hopefully you will also get a survey if the sea trial goes well.

I will bet if you actually look at the HIN cast into the hull, it ends in 1495 and someone mistakenly entered it as 'i495' when it was initially registered or titled. The 4 is for April and the 95 is the year of manufacture. The 1 (or i) would be the last digit in the actual serial number or production number for that year.

According to Carver (I did check with them during this drama lol) it's supposed to be i, they suspected it had been a typo or misreported by a previous owner. The state said this situation is an example of why the change was forced.

As long as the title is clean at this point I'm happier.
