Raymarine Ray 53,63 vs Garmin, Standard GX1800GW

Postby funeraldirector » July 31st, 2022, 9:36 pm

Hey Guys,

Is anyone here using the new Ray 53,63 or 73 VHF radios? They are spendy and can't find one to look at to integrate with Axiom 9. Others would be Standard Horizon GX1800GW or Garmin 115. Like the Standard just wanted to go with plotter and radio from the same company. I will add an external speaker as well.

I have the older Ray 70. https://www.raymarine.com/vhf-radio-communication/ray70/index.html Has been terrific for many years. Purchased it because I wanted the AIS feature that is built in which shows targets on my plotter as there is rather heavy ship traffic in my boating area. The equivalent today is the Ray 73. That being said, I stayed with Raymarine since everything else is and the bezel was designed to fit with the rest of the Ray equipment on the dash.

When I updated the dash layout, things got pretty tight and I wanted to use the existing holes as much as possible. I ended up using the remote mic as I could not have the mike cord all over my dash as can be seen in the pic. Everything has worked out really well.

Hey Thanks a lot what a sweet looking boat. Looks like I'm going Axiom =9 with the AIS Ray radio.
