Windlass for carver 3207?

Postby Superg » August 1st, 2023, 7:16 pm

I would like a recommendation for type and location of a new windlass install for a 3207. I would like to put it above deck rather than in the locker, but would there be any issue with the rode piling up on the deck rather than going down neatly through that small hole? Horizontal or vertical?
Thanks in advance,
john.

Not really sure what you mean by the rode piling up on the deck. Usually the rode is routed below deck and drops into a rode locker. The only issues I see is if the rode locker isn't deep enough for the weight of the rode to pull it down so it bunches up right under the deck, if you're using rope vs chain.

There are plenty of other 3207 owners on here, so hopefully they'll weigh in on their installations and experiences!!

hi Surperg I have a 86 3207 it came with a Lewmar concept 1verticle windlass ( v700 model now) 45 ft chain and 200 ft 5/8 rope all stores neatly in rope locker . I don't think you want all that on the deck with a horizontal . I can post a pics if you want to see location

quick note a silicone swim cap makes a great weather cover over the windlass if your concerned about water in the rope locker from rain or waves

Thank you, and thanks for the swim cap tip! My question is because i've never used or mounted a windlass. So I wasn't sure if the rode behind the windlass could get twisted as you haul the anchor back up and therefore "miss" going neatly down the hole in to the locker below. Doesn't sound like that should be a concern. So I guess I can move forward. Seems Lofrans windlasses get good reviews for the price point.
