45' Californian Stock Propeller Size

Postby weispr1 » August 14th, 2023, 1:06 pm

New member, first post - glad to be joining your community. I'm dealing on a 1991 Carver Californian 4509 (45 ft) ACMY. On the sea trial, the 375 hp CAT 3208 TA's would only make 2400 WOT RPM. The surveyor says 2800 is the desired figure. The props on this boat are rebuilds and the surveyor's not convinced they are correctly pitched. The owner has a pair of new in-the-box spares from which I'm trying to get dimensions for comparison to those on the boat. Carver is defunct so I'm asking here if anyone can provide size specs on this boats OEM props?
Kindest regards,
weispr1

If you have the owners packet from the vessel, it would have the OEM list in it. Or, you can reference the engine manual for the prop size. Finally, I would think the new props are similar to the originals. Carver did offer spare prop set as an option. The lower RPM is most likely a result of a PO changing the pitch from originals. 1" equals 200RPM, either way. Good luck, great cruising vessel. Small condo on the water. 8-) er

Thanks Cooler. I'm going there with the broker today and will look through the manuals and docs kept onboard. The owner has been asked about rework to the running gear but no word back so far. He's not really a boat nut so I don't suspect he'd experiment with re-pitched props without some external reason.
