what needs to be on before getting underway

Hello everyone. this is my first large boat, 1993 carver 440 aft cabin, and i'm in need of guidance on what exactly needs to be on/ valves and breakers, to get underway. i got the sea valves to engines and genset. i'm thinking of the valves to the heads, a/c's etc. to add fuel to each tank, is there an isolation valve between the tank and fill port? does the water tank have an isolation valve too? when filling the water tank, is there an overboard vent to let you know it's full? waste tank pump outs on each side next to the fuel fill ports, do you have to pump each one or does one do both tanks?

A lot depends on your configuration.

But.. a few generalities. There is usually no valve between the fill ports and the tank (fuel or water). Take the cap off, and fill. With fuel you should have a good idea of how much fuel to take on before the tanks are "full". With water you can fill until water backs up in the fill port. There is a vent which will overflow some water too, but sometimes you can't even see that from where you're filling.

If you have two waste tank pumpouts, you MIGHT have two tanks, or you just have two pumpouts (one on each side) for convenience). You'll have to figure that out. I'd do a pumpout on both first, and if you get "stuff" pumping out on both then I'd assume you have two tanks.

While specific to my boat, it may help provide some ideas of things to look for in creating your own checklist. It's important to set up a "flow" so you check things in a particular area rather than going back and forth around the boat.

Not meant as an insult of any kind, but if you are that "green" to boating or that boat in particular, you should find someone that know what's up and have them provide on the boat guidance.
