rubber coated dashboard switches

I just got a 1995 Carver 355 Aft Cabin and the swithces on the dash have a rubber like coating on them and the rubber is breaking down to a semi liquid state. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening and if anyone knows where I can get replacement switches

Carver sometimes used different style of switches even in the same year of production boats due to current stock/revision models. Without seeing the switch it would be hard to assist you. I have the suggestion of looking at the back side of the switch and see if there is any manufacture numbers and/or name of manufacture printed or stamped on the body which might lead you in the correct direction of identification. I have done this on other boats finding manufactures as Carlton, Cherry and such.

I beleive what you're looking for is actually the actuator, not the switch. The switch is the small black box installed in your dash that controls the circuit. The actuator is the button that moves the switch.

Hey MissWhit's, just realized you're at Texoma...we are there too, although not in a Carver. We have our Silverton 392 down at Flowing Wells in Big Mineral Arm on the west side.
