Plumbing, Alternative 15mm Quick Disconnect Fittings

Postby Midnightsun » May 28th, 2018, 6:58 am

These fittings have always been a pita to get a hold of. Usually out of stock, special order not to mention expensive. Came across this at Home Depot, yes it says 1/2" however this is designed for an irrigation system which is not your standard 1/2" exterior dimension. I measured, tried, tested and can confirm it is interchangeable with 15mm boat stuff. Shelves are full and dirt cheap. No way can you get 50' of 15mm water line for $20 CDN? more like 5'. Its rather easy to disassemble as there are built in tabs to push back and release. Finally a cheap, easy to obtain alternative. Disregard the 3/4" stuff in the link, see here https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/search ... q=blu-lock

Hans....do you know who is the original maker of the quick disconnect oem fittings on our boats.....I have a couple at the water tank that are connected and disconnected a lot and are beginning to be a problem, do you think those sprinkler ones can be used with the 1/2" oem water lines on the boat....thanks for the info...
The above is strictly my opinion.

Are you sure your lines in your boat are 1/2"? Reason I ask is all my 3 previous boats (Bayliners) and my present Carver use 15mm. I do know some boats have 1/2" though. Look closely at any water line, should be printed on it.

Not 100% sure but think it is Sea Tech. I have purchased these in the past for my Carver and they look identical. I do know Defender carries them. http://www.seatechinc.com/Products/Metr ... and_Tubing

Actually I don't know what size they are, will have to find the stamping , just haven't gone looking for it, it could be the 15mm you talk about, will check it today, have to check the fittings at the hot water tank anyway ( same every year ).... your post tweaked the ... now that is something else I can finally repair response..... :-D

They'll be either SeaTech or Whale. Both have 15mm and 1/2" fittings as well as adapters to go from one size to the other.

Sometimes it's not the fittings but the line itself. Every time you connect and disconnect it abrades the line in the area that gets inserted into the fitting, take a close look. If that's the cause, cutting 3/4" off the end solves the problem. If it still leaks after that, then replace the fitting.

Are the lines red and blue?

Yes they are........I have been clipping them already, they are getting too short.. :-O ....and I just get the impression the fittings are getting to the end of life as well.....hopefully when I check today the drip will have stopped for this year..

Sorry for the hijack Hans...
