Airlock ionizer

Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone used the product Airlock ionizer to keep their boats smelling fresh and clean? Keep seeing their ads and read the reviews. Seems very impressive, hoping to get firsthand knowledge.

You peaked my curiosity so I searched the web only to find out it sort of works according to a few who have actually installed them on their boats who are on forums and not affiliated with the company. Nothing magical about it after all it is just an ionizer. Best bet is to find and deal with the source of odours IMHO. Bottom line is personally I would not waste my money.

Yes, I have 2 on my boat, one connected to each AC unit. My one son used to complain about the boat odors…I couldn’t smell anything. Anyway, Christmas a year ago, our sons gave us the 2 units for Christmas. I hooked them up last spring and my son with the sensitive nose, says the difference is certainly noticeable, so yes, I do suggest getting them.

I also have two in my boat (but have 3 ac units). I’ve been tackling the orders at their source as well so I am seeing improvement. However, the Airlock units are only on and working when your a/c or heat is on..or at least the fan, and I never leave the ac units on while I’m away so they’re not doing anything 90% of the time. Most reviews state they notice a difference after 2 days…well, that’s when we’re packing up and leaving. Airlock does have a fan-based, table-top version that just plugs in and can safely run all week when I’m not there. I’m considering one of those. Ps, they run sales all the time.

I would do some research first if I were you. Most ionizers produce ozone which could irritate your lungs especially if you suffer from asthma. I also recall though can't be sure which type of generator it was that attacks rubber, maybe the ozone. When we had to put one of these devices in an engine room to clear up fuel spill odours for example, we had to use a specific type. Haven't had to do this for some time so I can't remember which type was safe on rubber.

The Airlock are NOT ozone generators. That much is clear in their literature. It produces such minute amounts while producing the + and - ions that it’s not even a consideration. Yes, ozone does deteriorate rubber and plastics and can have a negative effect on lungs and breathing but that’s not what the airlock devices produce. I looked at that very closely before purchasing.

I will add too that I only had a few weeks to try them last season before winterization and only 1 weekend so far this year so maybe further use will result in a bigger cumulative effect. Time will tell and I’ll report back after more use.

Update: I installed two Airlock systems in my 3297, one I installed directly to AC unit which is only on when the unit is on. I also have the Voyager model that plugs in to the wall sockets, which is always on. My boat had a little musty smell nothing to bad but noticeable. Have to say it's completely gone. Very happy with outcome.
