Capping unused thru hull?

Post by Jab »

Any practical advice for capping an unused thru hull fitting?

This particular fitting is plastic, straight, and does not have a ball-valve. It is the output for a macerator from head, where there is a valve to switch between macerator and pump-out.

I am going to remove the macerator and restore a single, pump-out connection. I don't want to leave a hidden potential leak.

The good news is this is easily accessible by removing the settee seats. I could easily leave all of the existing hoses in place and just cap the disconnected macerator hose in the head. I could remove the macerator and hose from the thru-hull barbs, and install a short, capped hose section. Is there a better, safer, more definitive option (short of removing the fitting entirely and patching the hole in the hull?)?

Open to suggestions.....

Easy is sometimes best. I'd fill the thru-hull from the outside with silicon, much like we did for our whirlpool tub in our up north vacation home. Clear silicon, almost nobody will even know you did it and it is leak free. Of course, my thoughts are sometimes wildly different than other people.
Thanks,
Steve

With that knowledge, I would attach aa long enough house that could be secured well above the water line, the plug that hose with a stainless house barb with a threaded cap on the end. Double opposed house clamps at both end.
Thanks
