ladder hardware

Postby mitchellp » March 28th, 2022, 2:43 am

Hi,
I am looking for the hardware that holds the swim ladder to the boarding ladder of a 89 aft cabin. I have googled it but apparently I am not using the correct term.

Thanks
Mitch

And I think that might have been added by a previous owner. I had the same kind of ladder, and Carver just used a little hook on one side of one end of the step to hold them up in place. I always wanted to change that to the type that Viper posted, but those are too wide to screw into the ends of the steps.

Just remember than one is supposed to be able to reach and fold out that ladder from within the water. So that you can get back onboard without help from anyone on the boat.

I agree, the ends of the rungs are the better location for fastening the assembly. The first time the wife hurts her foot on a piece of hardware in the middle of a step will be the last time she goes down that ladder until it's fixed ;-)

They should be teak or mahogany. Mine are painted white with non-skid so I can't tell what species of wood they are.

BTW, whatever finish you apply, you should consider adding a non-skid additive so the rungs aren't slick and provide a good grip when they're wet.

I had a 3607 of similar vintage and mine were definitely teak. I had to replace a couple over the years and they were surprisingly easy to make, as long as you had a nice block of stock to start with.
