2000 396MY icemaker removal

Postby bsc8000 » June 28th, 2022, 9:57 pm

Icemaker stopped making Ice it is a Raritan and working with tech support I now need to remove icemaker from cabinet to continue service diagnostics. I cannot figure out how to remove the unit. It looks like screwed to ss frame. I think they built the boat around the icemaker.

When opening the small round access port forward of the unit I see screws but cannot get to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve got a 356, so I’m guessing they are installed the same way…but just to be sure, how about taking a photo of the front of the unit and posting it here. I had to pull mine to have it fixed and basically, it was pretty simple. If I recall, after removing a couple of screws, it just slid out.

Same as buster. A couple screws on the mounting flange and it pull out very easily.
The best thing I ever did was replace the ice maker with a refrigerator.

download/file.php?mode=view&id=5929

The first pic shows front and the second one shows what I think may be mounting screws. I got second pic by taking a picture with my phone thru the small round access port. Is it possible these screws hold this unit in? It is the only thing I could find and I am not sure if I can get a screwdriver on the bottom one because of the fiberglass. As far as the other side I could not even get this far to see screws going in thru the cabinet to the right of the icemaker. Thanks for all your help to all!

Definitely a different setup from the 356. Any chance there are screws you can see if you open the door?

Did you open the door and look just inside that mounting flange to see if there are screws in there?

Is it also possible that the outside flange is two pieces... the outside being the decorative cover, which can be popped off to reveal the screws underneath? (some closer pics of that flange, especially around the corners would give some clues).

No and I have looked hard high and low. I was just hoping someone with a 396 had to remove theirs and knew the trick. I have tried a small pry bar to make sure it wasn't just friction fit. Thanks for your suggestion.

I looked at the manual and the parts diagram for some clues, but those are both useless documents. The only good info was that the unit's weight cannot be supported by the flanges so the unit must sit on it's feet or a solid surface. So whatever is holding it in place just has to stop it from sliding out.

Can you get access though that seat, or is that inspection hole the only way to see behind the unit? Is it possible there's a bracket mounted closer to the rear of the unit that's holding it in?

I took a look at the seat and no dice, it is not going to help as it is closed at top (fiberglass) where cushion would come out

Just curious if you ever figured out how to do this? Considering replacing ours with a refrigerator as was mentioned by another member. Thanks!
